Fuel leak

(First Post)

I have had an intermittent problem with my 03 E320. After I fill up the fuel tank and put the vehicle back in the garage at home, I notice a very definite fuel smell around the right rear wheel well. It dissipates overnight. I never top up the tank and I don’t spill fuel into the overflow behind the filler door. There is not enough fuel leaking to leave a puddle so I can’t easily trace the source. The dealer tightened a fitting around the fuel filler neck but the problem has not been corrected.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing? Any advice or suggestions?

Had the same problem with my ’03 e320 at about 30000 miles dealer performed a fuel leak inspection, found fuel stains on the upper tank, and replaced the fuel tank.

Thanks for the info, Konigstiger. I've got lots of warranty left so I'll press the dealer to do the right thing. They have been pretty good so far - which is nice since they are the only dealer on Vancouver Island.
