Do Audio Systems Have Auxiliary Input Jack?

Do any or all of the factory audio systems in the 2003-2005 E-class have an external jack for connecting an auxiliary source, such as a portable XM unit?

No aux input jack in my '03 E320

I also never saw any mention of an aux input to the sound system in the Audio System Operator's Manual (part # A211 584 48 82) that came with the car. Maybe there is one for the '05 E500 -- hopefully, someone on the forum can help.

Good luck,

Regards,
paul...

Starting with model year 2004, W211s have an AUX input jack in the glove box. I don't know if the AUX jack dates from the very start of the MY 2004 run, or if it was introduced in the course of MY 2004. 2003 W211s like mine do not have an AUX input jack. They do have a cassette deck (whoopee!) and I use it as an audio input for my XM MyFi on long trips, using the cassette input device that came with the MyFi. On short trips I just use the MyFi's FM modulator.

I have a 2004 and stock it did not have a jack. It depends where you are in the world. I had command retrofitted at the dealer and they added it..

If you have a Command, you have an AUX, that is the only way to get it.

Does anyone have a photo of this AUX Jack? I have an 06 E350 and there is an AUX soft button on the COMAND but I don't know where to find the AUX jack.

Thanks

2003 E-500
I have had one in two 2003, E-500's. It is a small jack in the middle of the glove compartment. I use it to play my iPod through by selecting the Aux button on the audio display. There have been other posts on this over the years, and I think they may have deleted it but not sure when. Try a search on this forum using "Aux Input" as the key word for other information.

Hmmm. Neither '03 had the head unit replaced with a newer audio/COMAND unit? For instance, did both have a cassette player and the small audio display screen? I'm pretty sure that my '03 has neither an AUX jack in the glove box nor a hard or soft "AUX" button.

Both of my 03's have had the six disc CD player with the large NAV screen display and no cassette player. Aux jack in same postition in each. The Owner's Manual discusses the location and operation of the Aux jack.

I have an 11/03 built 2004 E500, and the jack is there. It looks like a 1/8" stereo headphone jack inside the glove box.

Wow, just realized by reading this thread I had one of those. I just got a 2005 E500 and had a 2004 CLK500 before . I put the comand in the CLK and put the aux input in myself. When I got this car I was thinking I would be losing that feature. Turns out, it is there.

I don't know from iPODs or AUX input jacks in the glove box, but you probably need something like this RatShack item:

... if you're like me, you may already have one in a drawer someplace.

Absolutely not. All it is is a place for you to get an audio feed out of the headphone jack of some small tape/cd/iPod device and then feed it thru the audio amplifier of your radio so that the sound comes out of the car's radio speakers. It has no connection to Bluetooth or any other function.

The cable you will use is called a 1/8 inch stereo headphone cable, MALE on BOTH ends.

You plug one end into the CD player/tape deck/iPod, and the other into the jack in the glove compartment, and select AUX on the audio selector button on the radio. If the sound coming out of the speakers is distorted, you turn down the volume on the audio source NOT on the radio, so that you are no longer overmodulating on the input end of the radio.

Thanks, got the cable at Radioshack this morning and it works perfectly. Is there a way to feed the cable outside the glove box to allow for the box to close? I can close it but it seems to pinch the cable. I would rather drive with the glove box closed if possible.
Thanks>

To add onto MPE430's question, is there a way to take out that little sunglass holder (or whatever it is) directly to the right of the COMAND. I wanted to run a cable from the glove box to the inside of that sunglass holder so I could keep the ipod in there.

Does anyone know how to take that out?

I have a 01/04 build 2004 E320 Canadian spec with Audio 50 and I don't see any AUX jack in the glove box.

Can I presume that you have a COMAND unit?

Think it's called 3.5 mm.
