My heater stoped working guys. only cold air comes out. what could be the problem? somebody told me that it could be something called the heater control valve. anybody know about this problem.

I had the same problem with my 03 E500. It was the heater control valve. After doing a search on "heater" in the W211 forum I was able to find the part#.

The part cost like $50 and the labor was quite easy. Thank You MBWorld!

Yup heater control valve. The part at my dealership cost me know more than 30 dollars (I get a discount). I repaired it my self and installation I give it a 5 out of 10 for someone with experience.

You have to remove a couple of panels, both wiper blades, and other little moldings here and there. Other than that pretty simple just watch out for the winshield clip.

thanks guys, i guess that damn labor is gonna get me so im going to be spending around 150-200 bucks AGAIN. im getting really sick of the damnn problems with this car to tell the truth. i wish i could sell it but i wont make any money on it cuz of the upgrades i got for on it. i dont know if im even gonna fix it but thanks again guys.

Things to expect for either warranty or you pay. So don't be suprised.

Ball Joints
Brake pads every 30K
Heater / water control valve don't know the mileage but I have replaced 1
Ignition key switch
Alignment, tire wear
Maintenance average $500/visit at the dealer.

Just my observations so plan your $$ accordingly.

I had the same problem only getting cold air but that was after i removed the dash and forgot to connect the little plug in the back

A2118320584? Hopefully this one lives longer.

Heater control valve. Had the same problem. Crapy design by MB, water/coolant enters the small electric motor in the valve and corodes the terminals. One of the few parts on a Benz that is actually cheap to replace.

Its located under the driver side windshield wiper (under the plastic cowling).
You will have to remove both windshield wipers, then unclip the plastic cowling, remove wiper motor and linkage, undo clips holding coolant lines in place (needle nose visegrips work prety well). Its tight in there but not too difficult to do. Takes about 1 hour.

My heater acts up every now and again. I guess I need to look into replacing that Heater Control Valve.

no one suggested checking your coolant level?
that is the first place I'd start (as per 'general automotive knowledge'), and then I'd see if the thermostat is bad.

I understand the valve seems to be a common fault, but there could be other reasons too... (just saying)

Took me about 2 hours, probably because I'm always paranoid about breaking something.

Did the project, heat works great!
