DAMN MAN! Seems like every week it's something with that car. You parking it near magnets or something?

PM Konigstiger. He'll be able to arm you with the information you need to get it working.

Heater Problem

I had the same problem with my 03 E500. It was the heater control valve. After doing a search on "heater" in the W211 forum I was able to find the part#.

The part cost like $50 and the labor was quite easy. Thank You MBWorld!

Should search for more posts as suggested above. One thread showing the heat exchanger shutoff motor here:

Yup heater control valve. The part at my dealership cost me know more than 30 dollars (I get a discount). I repaired it my self and installation I give it a 5 out of 10 for someone with experience.

You have to remove a couple of panels, both wiper blades, and other little moldings here and there. Other than that pretty simple just watch out for the winshield clip.

Things to expect for either warranty or you pay. So don't be suprised.

Ball Joints
Brake pads every 30K
Heater / water control valve don't know the mileage but I have replaced 1
Ignition key switch
Alignment, tire wear
Maintenance average $500/visit at the dealer.

Just my observations so plan your $$ accordingly.

Can you remember if you replaced it with a part that had the new number:
A2118320584? Hopefully this one lives longer.

Would like to know the EIS issue, perhaps too much off topic.

Are there any special tools required or anything special to worry about (ie releasing vacum presure etc.)?

Heater control valve. Had the same problem. Crapy design by MB, water/coolant enters the small electric motor in the valve and corodes the terminals. One of the few parts on a Benz that is actually cheap to replace.

Its located under the driver side windshield wiper (under the plastic cowling).
You will have to remove both windshield wipers, then unclip the plastic cowling, remove wiper motor and linkage, undo clips holding coolant lines in place (needle nose visegrips work prety well). Its tight in there but not too difficult to do. Takes about 1 hour.

2005 E500 with 'some' BRABUS upgrades
My heater acts up every now and again. I guess I need to look into replacing that Heater Control Valve.

Good luck and hope you get it fixed.

no one suggested checking your coolant level?
that is the first place I'd start (as per 'general automotive knowledge'), and then I'd see if the thermostat is bad.

I understand the valve seems to be a common fault, but there could be other reasons too... (just saying)

good luck!

Thanks for all of your help, especially W211 Ryda. Your photos and directions really helped.

Took me about 2 hours, probably because I'm always paranoid about breaking something.

Did the project, heat works great!
