SBC hold should not need any info from the tranny. Is your car a sedan or a wagon? Sounds like the SBC SW update deleted the version coding for these features. I haven't looked at this but most likely you can activate SBC hold with SDS, if not, then there should be a different SW version with SBC hold. At least sounds odd if they had disabled an existing feature completely from latest SW versions.

Wow, never knew this existed. How do you get it to work exactly?

Thanks,

Thanks,

As far as I know, SBC Hold was not activated for the US market. It did neither exist on the first Euro sedans.

I tried DAS but it did not allow me to play with control unit adaptations without a car connected. With a car it could have failed for a security password but never tried it.

I find it a very useful feature. I have it on my current W211 but did not have it on the previous W211. I cannot give any advice how it should be coded in but it must be possible. Might not be straightforward to an ordinary workshop mechanic, perhaps it is.

This must not be a feature on the US cars as my 05 does not have it. However my 06 ML500 without SBC does have it. Actually I could not care less about it. If you drive correctly you will not have a need for it particularly with an auto transmission.

People have different opinions, in my opinion SBC hold is more useful with an auto tranny than with a manual. Like at traffic lights you can activate Hold and relax.

+1, SBC is great in a city like Jakarta with 12 to 14 million people and tons of traffic and lights. Besides where I live to get out of my neighborhood I take a road going up a hill for about 1km and the SBC is magic during this excusrsion up the hill as that lights changes anywhere from 3 to 6 times before I get out on the main road.

We were not talking about SBC in general but only the hold feature which is not in the US SBC cars, at least not in my 05. SBC in general is great and I was sorry to see it go away.

At least I understood Jakarta Expat talking about SBC Hold, basically irrespectively if it was on an SBC car or a traditional one like the W221. At least the traffic scenario he described sounds one where SBC Hold would be ideal in my opinion. I should let him clarify this though.

"hold" is not exclusive to SBC equipped vehicles. My 06 ML500 has hold but not SBC.

Either you do not read carefully or I'm writing poorly. But I said "talking about SBC Hold, basically irrespectively if it was on a traditional or SBC brakes car". Now of course "SBC hold" cannot be on a car with traditional brakes, but the SBC Hold part came from the fact that I was referring to Jakarta Expat's comments as he should have a car with SBC Hold.

Note that I have both, the W211 with SBC Hold and the W221 with traditional brakes and the Hold feature, nothing new to me on that.

I apologise if my comment was not easy to understand.
