I will go for diagnostics next week, unfortunately my car just went over(this past march) its 10 year warranty period for some part. If the technician recommends resetting the counter I will go ahead and do that and wait for the pump to fully fail. At which point I would buy it from parts.com and have and indy shop replace it.

anyone have the part number for the sbc unit?

They will never tell you to reset bc most don't even know about it.

I believe the part number for a re-manufactured SBC unit is 009431261288. Always best to verify VINs before ordering parts on-line though.

Agree with Mackhack. A dealer will not reset the SBC counter for you. For one thing, they will not want to assume any liability if your unit happened to have a failure after they adjusted or reset the service threshold established by Bosch no matter how slim the chance of it happening.

Are you certain your 06 E55 has been in service since April of 05? Don't mean to question you, but I did not realize MB was selling next year models so early into the current year.

If you are in fact within the ten year period, maybe this will help. If you are within the 10 year period and want a PDF of the doc below, PM me with an email address and I will send it to you. Same offer goes for anyone who is still within the ten year period. I want everyone who can to get MB to replace their SBC for free. I have not been so lucky.

I have done quite a bit of research on this whole "service threshold reached" issue and am aware of nobody who has. I do recall someone (maybe on this thread) saying they got a discount on the work. The dealer in the Milwaukee area told me no warranty after 10 years in service and no discounts. In fact he smugly told me about a guy paying for a new SBC unit who was one week past 10 years. They charged him $2,500.

I have also spoken with the owners of the dealerships in Indianapolis. I have a bit of a relationship with them and thought they would be willing to be more open about the issue. They too said 10 years max and really did not want to have the discussion stating they know very little about SBC issues.

I doubt you will find someone, but wish you luck.

I had the whole system replaced for free by Gargash in Dubai in 2014

the original owner sold the car to me and the dealer was quite courteous about honouring the warranty

If it was for your 06 and it was done in 2014 then you would have been well within the 10 year warranty they decided to provide on SBC replacement.

You may find Gargash has undisclosed warranty and you may not know until a repeat happens or does not happen which you will again not find

Hi,

I have a 2004 E500. My Service Brake Malfunction came on so I got my brakes changed ( They were super low ) and then the light went off for a week and then came back on for good. It comes on every time I start the car now. So I saw this post yesterday and went to MB dealer today and got the Brake Light Switch. I swapped the switch out in about 10 minutes but my light still stays on. So I guess I should take my car to my Indie and ask him to remove the malfunction? Also I can see the switch is bad because it was pushed all of the way in and clicks when I pull it out or push it back in. Thanks for creating this post.

Suggest you have your indie pull codes for you so you know exactly what the issue is. There are a number of issues that relate to the white service brake warning that is displayed on the MFD.

I had my Indie pull the codes for free and he said he could not pinpoint what it was because the error went away each time the car was restarted. He said there was no error for the SBC. He ended up saying it was most likely a sensor since there was no specific error code so I checked all three brake sensors and then saw this post.

Thanks

Great news. the SBC "service threshold reached" is a very obvious code.

I guess I am asking if the Malfunction needs to be reset to see if the new brake light switch resolved the issue or does it sometimes go away on its own? Also the old switch was really bad. It was stuck in the inward position.

Thanks

Had my indie replace the brake sensor switch under the steering wheel. It required a re-set for the warning light to not return.

Mercedes-Benz internal error codes are all defined as they created it and labeled it. Is it a handheld OBD 2 error code?

Yes he has a handheld OBD 2 device. He said it cost a lot of cash and he has to updateit every 6 months.

I got battery Light again. My Alternator was making a weird noise and the auxiliary battery was bad. All was replaced I also had three malfunctions. C22CF, C2130 and C23CF Unit A7/3 (Traction system hydraulic unit internal fault). I got them all cleared earlier today and they have not come back so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.
