Cabin Air Filter

Does the 2003 E500 have a Cabin Air Filter and, if so, is it accessible to replace under the dash of the front passenger area?

Its exactly where u said. Look under the glove box area. I cant remember if u have 1 or 2 but a couple of screw off and that should do it.

What is the filter under cover labeled A/C cover in the engine compartment? It's not the engine air filter for sure. The duct behind the filter goes into passenger compartment.

For the E320 it's called the combination filter -- for the E500, it's called the dust filter -- this filter is essentially the "cabin filter". The E500 does have some charcoal filters but I don't know where they're located since I own an E320.

Regards,
paul...

That's the dust filter. The filters under the glovebox are actually the charcoal filters. There's two of em.

In later years, and in the V6s, they combined these into something called a combo filter, which is in the same place as our dust filters.

Okay, I ordered MB OEM replacement filters from GetMercedesParts.com and got the Dust Filter and the twin Charcoal Filters for List/Discount prices of $31/$23 and $118/$88........the Dust filter was easily installed in the engine compartment this morning and will do the Cabin Filters tomorrow morning.

The charcoal filters are just as easy. Should be no more than a 4 minute, 38 second job. If it takes you longer than that, please turn in your man card.

Just installed the twin charcoal filters. Well, not quite less than five minutes for the first try...........takes a little longer to figure out how to pull down on the top cover under the glove box to ensure nothing brakes and then figure out where exactly the two slots are located and to get those covers off. But once that's all figured out, you're right, next time should only take 5 - 10 minutes. I'm not sure whether these filters have ever been replaced before.........I bought my vehicle when it was two years old with 21k miles on it and I don't believe they were ever replaced during any of my service visits and it's now 6 years old with 66k miles. What's the recommended mileage replacement interval on all these filters?

One my '05 E320 CDI I had the cover under the glove box off and I did not see and covers to remove filters from or install filters in, I have been told by one MB dealer the glove box had to be removed to get to the filters.

Anyone here know for sure about the E320 CDI for sure?

2003 E320
Had my mechanic replace it following my reaserch on this site as to how much the filter costs and time required to replace. Was going to replace myself but my shop charged $45 out the door.

Thanks,
On the 2009 e320 the cabin filter is near the right firewall under the hood. It is not under the dash. I got a Mann from autohausaz that the frame is made of cardboard instead of the mbz black plastic. 2118300018 with activated charcoal $20 or 2118300218 just filter media for $12. These filter incoming air -- not recirculating air.

Any way to have filter for the recirculated air?

Cabin filter = dust filter, or combination filter.

1922 Ford Model T / no OBD
The cabin filter on newly purchased W211 look pretty clean, but engine filters were packed, so I did not have good feeling.
Being on junk yard I took cabin filter from only W211 there and this one look really clean, coming from CA car.
So having 2 filters I tried to figure out if I want to replace slightly discolored filter on the car, or not.
Than the light in my head come on and I put them on weight scale.
The junk yard filter weight 16 oz, the slightly discolored filter from the car was 19 oz.
So even without visible residue, the filter hold 3 oz of dust in it.
The mileage/years based recommendations were good in years when filters cost $5.
Now for engine air filters I use filter minders and did not have to replace engine filter in CA before 100,000 miles.
In motorhome while in Mexico I had to replace air filter after 2000 miles.
