Car sputters and almost stalls

Hey guys long time reader first time poster. haha 2004 E500 RWD 89k miles
I really need some help. i had a problem a while back that whenever slowing down to a stop sign or light the car would sputter and almost stall when stopped. a few time all the dash lights would come on and the go back off and the car would operate normally. since it only happened a few times i didnt think to get it to the mechanic right away. then one unfortunate night while at a stop light it did the same thing but i also couldn't accelerate in comfort mode so i put it in standard mode and got it to the mechanic..long story short they ended up replacing the tranny with a rebuilt one. prob went away..fast fwd a few mos later it happened again i took the mech for a ride and he said its dropping cylinders so he replaced the plugs and the MAF. everything seemed OK after that. but now its starting to do the same thing AGAIN!!! also when trying to pass ppl on the highway at about 60mph and 3500 RPM's the car starts to jerk and when i let off the gas and press the gas it starts working fine again. please help any ideas would be helpful, ive searched everywhere with no luck
hope this is enough info if you need more just let me know

I'm confused so does the car still sputter and/or stall when coming to a stop? Did they check for a vacuum leak?

Yeah the car still does but only when coming to a stop. as far as i know they did not specifically check for a leak i can only assume now that he would have done a full inspection but you never know

+1. My CLK500 had a similar problem after they changed the valve cover gaskets. It ended up being a vacuum leak on a hose coming from driver side valve cover.

Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS)? I just replaced mine, car would stall sometimes, would crank and not start for a while, then it would start after 10-15 minutes. Most times a CEL (Check Engine Light) would go off, then disappear and all would be good for a couple of days.

Not exactly your symptoms, but close, you can try it, it is a $40 fix, its worth a shot.

You might consider reading the OBDII codes to give you a small clue.

.................
None of those actually work -- the proper way to clean fuel injectors is to either remove them and put them into a bench-top machine designed for that, or use a cleaning cannister that hooks up to the fuel rail and delivers a cleaner solution -- this runs on shop air and I would assume that your indy mechanic has one already -- they're only about $150 + $15 for a can of cleaner. This is the easiest way to clean the injectors. Also, was the fuel pressure and volume tested at the rails?

Regards,
paul...

There's a guy who posted this to youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFJlTfHyrUk) where he took the injectors off and rigged up a cleaning system -- this is great assuming that the injectors are easily accessible.

I helped a neighbor this weekend with his truck. Stalling no power. No codes. We pulled the MAF he cleaned it and replace the aircleaner. It ran ok after that and all was normal. The (his was really fouled) plugged aircleaner allowing dirt to reach the maf was causing his problem. He is now 1000 miles into the clean up and all is well. The way I confirmed on the truck was to unplug the maf with engine running to force failsafe. Then all was pulled and cleaned.

BTW from what I have found Chevron Techron is the only MB approved injector additive. You might try it in the "High Dose Cleanout Ratio" before pulling the injectors.
