MBWorld Fanatic!
Your Mercedes-Benz is in need of "Service $" - please insert more 100 dollar bills into the MP3 slot and/or CD changer of your W211 and it will be happy - for now.

Panoramic roof
Anyone actually replaced motor on pano roof, I have been told you can not buy parts for roof, that you must buy the roof assembly, which I have been quoted from $4000.00 to 6000.00

Same issue on 05 E55 AMG
Well I am a new owner of a 05 E55 AMG and love the car, Everything works but the Pano Sunroof and by the looks of this thread it seems it is a common problem as mine is doing the same. I have done a lot of research and haven't found anything as the real cause or fix and can't get the damn manual repair disk I ordered to work.
If someone has the info on getting to the parts of the sunroof before I just dig in and try and fix it myself I would be greatly appreciated and I will report back on what I found. williamb_66@yahoo.com Thanks

Any help please email to slayersnick@yahoo.com also please.
I have the problem where when the panao roof goes to close, it sticks up about an inch on the passanger side, and about 3 or 4 inches on the drivers. Can't get the thing to close and it just goes click click click, but no movement. Looks like there is a little plastic thing that is not seating right on the track. I'm going to try and take the thing off tonight in the garage. As of now I have plastic bags shoved in there so it won't rain in my car. Lucky for me there is a tropical storm in our area right now
It's an 07 E350 sport. 70,000 miles on it. First time I have had a problem. Hopefully I can take photos and show how I fixed it, or how drunk I get and start punching it.

pano repair
Mine did a similar grinding gear sound. I used the pdf and took it apart to get the motor out, the gear cover had bent just like previously described. Instead of replacing the motor, which technically should bend again, i straightened it to close the gap then took a galvanized junction box cover from Home Depot and cut it out to the shape of the cover. Then JB Welded it onto the outside of the gear cover. Presto! Fixed and will never happen again. $1.29 well spent

The Pano Sunroof answers
Well thanks to doing a ton of searching and seeing the issues first hand with Pano sunroofs. This is my conclusion!
If you don't do your maintenance and keep the damn tracks lubed correctly as you should. It will start to put undo stress on the motor which will force the motor to bind to the point where the motor cover will bend making the gear sprocket to move out of position. Then of course by then the cable and motor are pretty much about stripped out.
Easy fix for the most part is get the tracks cleaned and lubed, then replace the motor or get it mounted back in position and hope all goes good as should.
[B]THE EXPENSIVE REPAIR
Take it to your MB dealer (like I did for a front end alignment) and find the tech who says he can just listen to it and can tell you whats wrong with it. Once they it the button that pops the sunroof up. He will call over 3 other techs who also knows everything and they will push and pry on the top for 45mins until they figure out how to shut it. Then they will tell you it is a $6,000 job to fix.
FYI to all, after seeing the parts that were broken by the techs. YOU can buy all the little parts to repair it yourself without buying a whole new assemble.
Also, in case anyone else out there thinks like the techs here do. NEVER EVER pry or push extremely hard on your sunroof because you will make it worse!

I couldn't get mine fixed, but just in case this helps someone in a pinch, I was able to pop off the plate next to the button that you use to slide the sunroof open and close. Just to the left of the light button I think. You just push up on the back (toward rear) of the little grill pate and it pops off. Then you can take the crank that should have come with your car. Mine was in the trunk under the ligt up liner. Use that to crank it closed mannualy. I was ale to get it shut so at least the rain won't get in.
I still can't close the shade, but at least it's better then nothing for now.
If you can't kind the crank, it's basically just a mediumish hex wrench. I can't remember the exact size, but just stick it in the whole and turn. It should shut it.
it mentions this in the owner mannual somewhere too. But it did work for me.

Same thing happened to me. Sounds like a machine gun in the roof. Can you email me the instructions. Thanks

Good Morning All (EST).........
First I would suggest going to You Tube and link in @ benzwerks for the issue with sunroof.
Also I had a similar issue and had to personally repair a trick to fix the issue. PM me if link does solve concern.

I'm having issues w/ the pano roof on my 2006 e350 4matic. Motor clicking & only moves a few inches... & the screen won't close.
I've used the search features of this & other MB owner's forums, but can't find anything beyond diagnosis of the problem. We all know the problem. I need info on how to repair it.
I'm looking for an exploded view of the headliner &/or sunroof cartridge assembly so I can replace the motor & service the tracks as necessary.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
