I got the white brake service message. I checked everything I could, sensors etc. Took it to the dealer, SBC gone. Replaced with about one year left on the 10 year warranty.

My question is, what is the warranty of the replacement unit?

I was told only the original warranty. So if you have one year left of the 10 yr warranty that is what you have on the new part. But then I could be wrong my wife tells me all the time I 'm wrong.

One could successfully argue one year/unlimited mileage from repair/replacement date for any/all parts - warranty or cost. Unfortunately for you this will run concurrent to EW remaining year not in addition to.

I as well got the OBC message "Brake visit workshop" 2005 W211, so it still falls within the 10 year SBC warranty. However a dealership here in So. Cal refused to replaced under MB warranty saying that the problem with my SBC system is due to the high pressure reservoir/accumulator and not the pump itself? I would think that if one part of the the SBC system is faulty then its still a safety issue and should be covered under their warranty.

This happen to anyone else?

Yes do some searching, you'll see there are some instances of that. Strangely not covered by the warranty. You'll see that some folks handled this outside the dealer to save costs. The accumulator is not a cheap repair at the dealer.

Does the recall apply to cars taken overseas? My SBS seem to have failed. Would the warranty be applicable at the local MB Dealership here in Ghana or only the US?

Potential SBC replacement......B4 warranty expires

Hi all- I recently acquired an '05 E500-W and i'm trying to be proactive in benefiting from this 10yr extended warranty. My delivery date = 10/9/2004 (who knows if that is Sept or Oct. of 2004, based on europen way of listing of month). From my understanding (thanks to Konigstiger, et al.), I most likely fall under the guidelines to get his fixed; but I didnt get the "brake service warning" on my cluster. I do however, have been experiencing excessive pulsating of the brake peddle while driving. I hear some type of motor activating for 5-10 seconds when braking. this is from normal (30-40mph) speeds. Sometines it actvates when I'm stationary, and press brake to shift into "D".
I want to have my local dealership check it out; I'm anticipating push-back, excuses, maybe other component, etc. from dealer, so wanted tips on how to approach this. The last thing i want is for this SBC unit to fail after warranty expire...

Questions: Can I request the unit be replaced even thou no error codes or message in cluster? Will dealer be able to provide me with proof IF it was repalced by 1st previous owner? My info cluster says "service G in 12K miles"; is there a particular service-point where it should have been replaced? I just passed 100K miles. Is there a diff. between in-service date and delivery date? I'm very comfortable dealing with SA/Techs, just wanted solid facts/points to plead my case.

Thanks in advance, D.

May be normal wake-up or upcoming service requires replacing brake fluid.

MBUSA normally will not approve replacement unless fault codes are present using STAR Diagnosis (SDS).

Yes, by pulling Vehicle Master Inquiry (VMI).

No.

Yes, SBC warranty is 10 years/unlimited mileage from warranty (or in service) start date confirmed by dealer invoice or VMI.

SBC Unit driving me nuts

Hi Guys I will try to be brief 2003 E320 w211
SBC Unit failed, benz dealer said its gone beyond life which is short for over 350K presses. MB USA refused to authorize good will.
Bought a used one from eBay. works fine however control unit is not recognizing car VIN. it is associated with previous VIN. Benz dealer tried but could not reprogram VIN (supposedly).
Ind repair shop says they will try but i don't think they can either. only other solution is to reset counter on my original unit. while looking for one ran into this salvage parts shop in canada who sells them reset. but they won't tell me how. I am worried if i buy from them i will run into VIN issue again. I really don't wanna pay 2300 to benz dealer. Help!!!!

reset and vin problems

You'll have bigger things to worry about if it does work!

Is 2300 installed?

another idea

buy the unit for $1132 at ECS plus Indy labor?

Sadly there is no safe $500 solution for this. Read 'safe'.

What exactly failed? The SBC pump or some other SBC part? There was some thread that mentioned a reset for the counter but I'm not sure if you're having the same problem. They also sell a remanufactured pump for $842 which is mentioned in this thread:

Confused

ok, so the issue I am having now is that the counter reset did not get the c249f away. I now have C249f and c2131. swapped accumulator with no luck. Counter sows plenty of life left.
My SBC is Bosch 0265960013 or A0044316912
I found one used with 57K miles
Bosch 0265960018 or A0044319912
Can I swap it? AM i going to have compatibility issues? Is the VIN of the car it came from coded in it? Will my car not accept it? How do I code it to my car?

Class action?

It would appear that MB is quite aware of the risk of harm or death they are putting there cusomers in.This seems to be a perfect situation for a "Class action lawsuit". Does any body know of any such actions that have been or about to be filed?

I purchased what I thought was a good 2005 MB E320 from MB dealer, not a CPO, and would think that in matters of safety MB would be more dilligent in their concern for customers. It would appear not as my SBC is no longer working at 82000 miles.

That doesn't sound like it changes any of the pumps, no?

Do I understand this correctly that the control unit asks for replacement, but that MB will replace the pumps and the control unit? Of course exchanging the control unit will reset the error code even with the old pumps.

There is so much confusing information out there.

That's interesting, how did you find out how much was left?
