removing and repairing the door's anti-scuff plate

The rubber on the anti-scuff plate has come off. How to remove the metal portion of the anti-scuff plate from the door frame? Can the rubber be reglue to the metal?

Check out the threads on illuminated door sill install I suspect the procedure is similar.

Here is the parts diagram; looks like the scuff plate is $67. http://www.parts.com/parts/2009/Mercedes-Benz/E320/?siteid=2&vehicleid=206958&diagram=5717550

Rediesel. Thanks for the location to find a replacement part.

How did you find the part on the parts.com website?

Well I tried to remove it by sliding it backward and then using a midsize to small defastener tool. :{

What's needed is fishing line to cut the foam tape on outter portion of the rail, the lift with a thin fastener tool the three post. The plastics were very brittle. 2 of the 3 clips broke. I used a soldering iron to open the plastic crimps on the rail and to plastic welded the clips back together and slid them back into the rail.

The plastic rail is P/N A 211 680 5635 for $90 (and discounted as you wrote to $67 on parts.com and has a "mercedes" stamped metal insert.

Looks like the rubber has a plastic insert that weld broke loose from the thin channel on the plastic portion of the rail.

Clean out the rail with with detergent, water and a tooth brush. Will let it dry over night and thinking of using model cement to reattach them back together. Silicone sealant (non acetic acid type) or rubber cement to agment the old foam tape to the door frame.
