Broken rubber seals on outside mirrors

I noticed that the rubber seal at the body joint on both outside mirrors is either damaged (left) or missing (right).

Dealer says only way to fix is new frames at $400 each.

Seems ridiculous on several levels.

Has anyone had this issue?

Other folks had the issue. Someone else commissioned a new run of just the rubbers for $70 IIRC. There is a thread somewhere.

Thanks. I found them on eBay but didn't know if I could post the link.

Obviously others have had the same problem - defective rubber compound, as it was not UV resistant.

I believe the entire mirror must come off to install these, where can I get the instructions? I downloaded a manual from MB, but cannot find the exterior mirrors.

Just make sure you know what you are getting onto---the e-bay crap is not a complete gasket. The complete gasket is apart of the mirror wiring harness which is not a part number for sale---therefore you have to cut the old one out around the connector and use the e-bay crap!!

Thanks.

For $370 per side savings, I'll do some trimming.
