What does the "W211" cover/mean?
As I understand, W211 is a Mercedes-Benz car model which can have different engines(for example E320CDI, E500), different transmission(for example 7G-TRONIC or -speed manual), different body-types(for example sedan or wagon). So does the "W211" mean the overall body design? Interior design? It obviously determines the possible engine and transmission options. However, what else?

Chassis = the base frame the car is built on, almost like the bones of a car. For example you can use the same frame for every house your build, but you can choose to build it with different floors, different windows, different doors, different paint, different rooms, etc. So in the case of a car with the w211 chassis, you have a newer or older transmission, a bigger or small engine, different style bumpers and so forth.
When the E class became a W212, a new frame was used to build the car on, also putting it in to the next generation.

It describe body types - AKA chassis. The W211 is the sedan and the S211 is the Wagon.
I have C204 which is a C-class coupe, the W204 is a C-class sedan, and the S204 a wagon.
