RE-CONNECT BATTERY ISSUE

Hi all,

I've been between a brick and a hard place with my 2003 E500 insofar as battery drainage. My vehicle sits for a month or so at a time. There's no availability of power to connect a trickle charger so my battery inevitably drains out.

This time I disconnected the battery as I was going to be away for 2 months. Today I reconnected battery and tried to start. It starts but shuts down in about 1-2 seconds. Windows, locks, and radio work fine.

Is there a reset that I need to do? Seems like a security thing if it fires but shuts off simultaneously?

I imagine with the main battery disconnected..... the auxiliary battery got completely drained. Would that be the cause??

You can move the fuse for the front cigarette lighter from its current position to the alternate position, which will keep it always live. I don't remember which # fuse it is, but it's located on the driver's side under the hood, under a black plastic panel next to the windshield. You can then plug in your trickle charger.

Very good chance your Crank Position Sensor is bad; cheap part, easy to install or cheap to have installed. Do a search on it; you'll find your symptoms. Sometimes old sensors that sit for a while and then get fired up will fail- It's worth a try, anyway. Good luck!
