4 Matic on W211 CDI

I live in Italy and a few months ago ordered a W211 E Class with CDI diesel engine which I will be receiving this week. Going through the long list of optionals I found out there was no 4 Matic version for any of the CDI diesel engines. It was a real shame because I ordered a pretty loaded car but feel it somewhat empty w/o this option. Does anyone know why MB doesn't offer this options on diesels?

For those of you complaining for the high prices charged by MBUSA, a regular E320 here goes for 50K Euros, E500 for 67K Euros and E55 96K Euros!!! If you want to turn that into US$ just multiply by 1.25.

You can get the whole list here

It's in italian but I think it can be understood.

I know it's only available on gasoline versions of the E and wanted to know why is it not yet available on diesel versions? Is it just a matter of time or may it have something to do with torque? Same question applies on 7G-tronic transmission on the smaller engines. Why is it not available?

I think those questions only can be answered by MB's R&D Department

I hope someone from MB who knows reads my post and gives me some answers.

I changing subject, I ordered a pretty loaded car but yours just blows mine off! Congratulations and enjoy it as I hope I'll enjoy mine starting this wednesday when I have to pick it up at my dealer. Already saw and sat in it and consider it awesome! Can hardly wait!!!

Thanks for your help.

You must be living in the northern part of Italy. Otherwise you will probably not need the 4Matic. :p And the E-class is a fantastic car on winter roads even without the 4Matic.

I know by experience that you have a hard time waiting for your new car. Only 3 days to go

I will share my experience and take some pictures to go along with it.

The 4 Matic was useful for an ocassional ski trip or going to Switzerland where I have some good friends. Acrually where I live there's about as good weather as one can hope for. I live on the Riviera dei Fiori, very close to the French border and Cote d'Azur. I now have to consider getting a
Spikes Spider. the other day read an article on Autosock but it seems they don't make an appropiate for my tire size.
