2003 E320, W211 - Power Driver Seat Issue

The drivers seat fore and aft motion on my E320 is not working, all other functions of the power seat work flawless.

I checked the seat out in detail this weekend, there is nothing that seems to be off track or anything one would notice while doing a visual inspection.

I can hear a clicking sound when I activate/push the switch on the door, but no movement. A relay problem maybe?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance.

I would first clear the seat memory(see manual)--if that does not work and you don't have access to a diagnostic tool and or wiring diagrams, my guess is that you have a faulty seat motor----a time consuming and expensive repair---we love these type of jobs---loads of labor!!

By clearing all the seat position memory(removing all previous seat positions)---you remove any corrupt data that may prevent the seat switch, when pressed F or B, to tell the respective seat motor to start and move the seat either in a forward or reverse direction.

Thanks very much for all your help so far, greatly appreciated.

I went through the manual and cannot find ANYTHING in regards to clearing the seat memory. I searched the forum and there seem to be many different opinions as to how to do it.

Can you possibly explain to me the EXACT "how to" steps in order for me to be able to clear the memory on my drivers seat of my 2003 E320?

I spoke to the precious owner and he said he never had any issues with the seat not properly working, so I am really hoping that is will take care of this issue.

Many thanks in advance

You won't believe me but there are reems of information on the seat memory package and although I believe that with the car I could deactivate the memory system, however i doubt very seriously that i could communicate the instructions properly for you to accomplish the task-----therefore we are going to try something different to determing(provide an indication) whether the switch, control module or motor is faulty

You now know that the driver can store three seat positions(see button 1 2 3) along with other settings----start the car---first try to move the seat forward and backword with the forward and backward switch-----does the seat move in either direction--Simply Yes or No-----

second, press and hold for a couple of seconds any one of the three memory buttons----does the seat move--simply Yes or No

I shall answer your questions with a simnpole YES or NO.

QUESTION #1: NO, the seat will not move with the manual door switch, but I can hear a clicking sound underneath the seat when the manual door switch is operated (not very loud, but one can hear it).

QUESTION #2: YES, the seat moves with the memory buttons.

THANK YOU!

I'm going to follow up does it move fore/aft or just other directions?

I think this is a controller issue. https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...h-recline.html

It moves fore/aft as well as all other directions when hitting the memory button.

Fore/aft does NOT work with the manual door switch, ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS DO WORK from the door switch.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

The very good news is that we know that the motor is not faulty, however the seat system is extremely complicated electrically and you are still left with is it the door switch, control module or position sensor--

If I were you and being a new owner I would visit the dealership in the afternoon, not busy morning and talk with a service adviser and ask for an explanation on how to deactivate via the key the stored memory and a general help with the seats----see what they come up with!!
