Lets Play What do these Mann Filter Instructions Mean

So, I changed my oil, my car has been acting funny because, I hope, I have a Fram oil filter in there. I bought a Mann FIlter hu718/5x and pulled it out of the box, and it has this funny card with instructions or pictures on it? what does it mean?

Yeah. It means that you want to be sure to put the o-ring where it shows the o-ring placed, and that you twist the filter on and that it is properly-seated when one black line is showing as indicated

You must push the new filter up inside the plastic holder till only one line is showing on the new filter not two lines .And to fit ONE new o ring seal in its place as picture 3 said not 2 o rings

I never use aftermarket filters in my cars. OEM oil filters perform per specs. I have seen canister after market filters split and crush like a squeezed soda can.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Fram. If you're talking about the Mann, I could not disagree with you more. The Mann or the Hengst fleeces are filters approved by MB. And the current fleece filters are not "to spec" but are improvements, and MB now recommends them. The "to Spec" filter would be worse, much worse.

filter

I went out of my way to order filters from Mercedes .Only to find a Mann filter in the MB box, with Made in Spain stamped on it. The price was double the price i could have purchased from Ebay.

I think what you are saying is that the correct Mann filter is the OEM filter and I agree. I use OEM filters however I buy the correct Mann or Hengst filters. It takes some research to make sure the filters are the oem so unless a buyer is knowledgeable and does the proper research its best just to stay with the oem brand.

Yesterday Afternoon I got in a MANN oil filter for my car and its made in Mexico. The other 3 I have bought were all German and back in the day for my m112 they were always Germany. Oh well its MANN so I trust it but I think I will ask the dealer to look at a filter next week just to see where they are made.

Just in case you didn't know... the Purolator L25277 filter is made by Mann and is the same Mann fleece filter that MB sells for the W211. AdvanceAuto Parts keeps only two in stock at each store, so if you're in a pinch and need an oil filter, the Purolator L25277 is the real deal. Same exact filter for $12.99 in the Purolator box... Mann purchased Purolator and sells this filter in the US under the Purolator name.

Cheers!

Nice succinct summary and great photo!! Pep Boys also sells this Purolator Clssic filter. Advance often sells Mann in its stores (at least they do in my local one), but they also sell this one, too. Pep Boys doesn't sell Mann, so this is a great way to avoid paying them $19.99 for the what-the-heck-is-this-thing Mobil 1 filter, and instead get the proper Mann one in a Purolator box for a lot less money.
