Car needs painted, anyone ever use MAACO?
A friend of mine needs a new paint job, on a 07 E350. The price from MAACO is super good, and comes with a 5 year warranty. I know what some of you are going to say, but I'm just wondering and asking if anyone on here used them and how their experience was. She's going to get estimates from a few other places and the dealer. Thanks.

firstly, "needs painted" is not english.
secondly, the only time I would use maaco to do a full repaint is on a total beater.
If you do all the prep work and the masking, and just have them shoot paint, you might be ok.
Since this doesn't seem to be the case, I would say hell no.

It's a good deal. They paint EVERYTHING (mufflers, wheel wells, trim, tires, lights, etc)
You get what you pay for with bodywork. Those cheap paint jobs usually consist of 1 hr prep time, car wash, then paint.

I am an estimator at a family owned local body shop.
There is a Maaco right down the street and they will quote a full respray for $2k, I will quote the same car $7k+ and that is if I do not have to do much repair of small dents or scratches. If you have damage or want a color change the price goes up. If you want a color like MB's Barolo Red the price goes up.
If you want a flawless finish the price goes up.
They up sell the 5yr warranty from a 1yr, my paint job is lifetime of ownership of the car.

The cheap Maaco paint jobs look good at 60 feet. They just mask your emblems, trim, ect.
A quality body shop will remove those items then reattach them after paint. The car will look great up close.
My brother had a car done by them but it was a ground up restoration. He did all the body and prep work and had them paint the stripped body. It turned out pretty nice.

MAACO? Come over to my house after I'm done with school and work today and we can get you the rattle can special, I just have to run by Ace hardware before hand and get one of those handy pistol grips for my spray paint. I only work for fast food and I only work 30 minutes at a time.

"firstly, "needs painted" is not english."
i didnt know we have the grammar police here. comments like this ticks me off.
to the OP, not from around there so couldnt really comment on it but based from the replies. id save a few more bucks and go to a more reputable shop. unless your friend plans on selling the car straight away. goodluck mate!

Hey we are the land of milk and honey, and being a fifth generation Amerikan I can assure you that---"needs painted" is English and spoken by the Pigeon English Branch, plus loads of Bostonians.
In fact we are about to embark on a four day holiday(Memorial Day) to commemorate our very very expensive costs of help!!
However I can see that having an incarcerated past would also **** me off.

and to the OP, MAACO is a step above a rattle can paint job. fine for a car you get from and auction for 500 bucks, and are planning on selling, but not for a keeper.

Don't do it. It will look terrible. What's wrong with the paint now? Surely an 07 isn't in bad enough shape to need a full re-spray. If it's swirled or scratched up, you'd probably be better off finding a good reputable professional detailer to correct the paint for a lot less money. And I bet it would look much better than a crappy Maaco paint job.

It will look good from far, but will be far from good. Maaco is for retired Cop car to Taxi cab duty paint jobs, and for retired school buses with luggage racks welded to their roofs for duty as a "Chicken Bus" in 3rd world countries.

Just wanted to report back. Maaco only repaired the door that was smashed, body work was great (having someone else paint the whole car) If you get real close, the new gloss black paint on the door isn't as smooth looking as the rest of the car. You can definitely tell it's not smooth looking close up, but it feels smooth. It does't bother my friend, but it would bother me. They are happy with it, but me personally I couldn't live with it. The price they gave for the body work alone, and then body work and the paint was worth it, as the paint for the damaged area wasn't much more.
This was a good test to see in person what the difference would look like.
