Does anyone know how to disassemble the front seats? At the way down to removing the leather covers, the most extensive tear down?

Please don't post those workshop manuals though, they're impossible to understand and very vague. I already looked through them, they're really hard to get info out of.

Well if you have difficulty in reading\understanding the MB WIS documents, then my suggestion would be go buy a growler and watch TV and let a repair shop do the work!!

However just remove your seat bottom and you should be able to access the
bolts on the frame.....

The seat is already out and I can read the documents but there's just too many and getting to the right one is hard. They're indexed poorly.

I don't think my question was direction at you specifically, more like, has anyone done it and if so, could they give me pointers. So I appreciate your input and I don't expect anything. Just trying to learn how to do this, hopefully, without damaging anything

Thanks, I've already taken the seat out though, that's easy. I'm trying to take off the backrest and the bottom so I can take off the leather. I guess I'm just gonna have to try and see what happens. Not very scientific

Remove your seat bottom by removing the four brackets that hold the seat bottom to the frame. Once the bottom is removed you can start to disassemble the back rest. I have faith in you bro, you can do this. And no i'm not being condescending!

I did this a while back. I replaced the drivers seat cushion and cover. I suggest that you take your time. I don't think that I worked with a DIY on this one. A few things to keep in mind:

• Take your time. (I did break some plastic bits on dissassembly. easliy replaced after reinstall)
• Take pictures on disassembly, you'll never know what you'll need on reassembly.
• There are rivets that need to be drilled out. These connect the front storage compartment to the seat. (you'll need to go to home depot and buy a rivet tool and rivets)
• There is a system of clips and rods that keep the cover flat to the cushion. If I recall correctly you can remove the rods without dealing with the clips. On reinstall you'll need to carefully clip the clips to the respective rod. The rods slide into sleeves on the underside of the cover. The red clips are embedded in the cushion. It is a 'press fit'. You want to be very careful not to break any of the red clips.
• I was not WIS saavy when I did this job. That might be advisable as a reference, but WIS docs can be painfully brief

This was a worthwhile DIY, no more unsightly cracks in the cover and the cushion feels new. I did not work with the backrest at all, only the bottom.

Looking at the seat with the back disassembled and the storage box removed, I still cannot tell how to remove the bottom and back cushion. Also, why do I have to drill out the storage box bracket's rivets? It looks like it has nothing to do with the cushion ??

Help me understand what you are doing, you are trying to remove the upholstry from the seat bottom and back rest correct?

NOOOOOO! you do not need to drill those rivets out. You can access the t-30's without doing that.

remove your seat belt buckle. Loosen and remove those t-40/45's on both sides and the back rest should come off. The seat bottom should just pull up once you have removed the brackets holding it to the frame.....

What do I do now? Can't really see what to do and really don't wanna damage anything. I wanna take the leather covers off, the side airbag too or at least the front cover of it.

I'm sorry man, you really have to read the directions. I can't simplify it any better as to how to disassemble the seat cover and back rest cover. WIS will tell you exactly what to do step by step. It may seem confusing at first but once it's apart you'll be glad you followed the directions. It's alot easier to show someone in person how to do this then tell them via forum.....

All I want to do is take off the leather cover on the seats. I just don't see how though from looking. Do you have a link to the WIS article on this?

Once you have the back rest and seat bottom removed from seat frame/housing you need to pry leather back and remove the brass rods from the c-clips that hold the leather to the cushion.

I don't have a wis link because i don't have a vin.....

this is a photo of the bottom of the seat cushion. Remove brackets 9. I've said this 6 times in 6 Different ways. If you still don't understand I'm sorry. I can feed you all the information you want but if you don't want to accept it that is on you!

Thanks for the picture I know I'm probably seeming a little (a lot) thick. I've learnt alot about this car and how to do alot of things, they were tricky once but not so now but I can still remember why they were. If we're honest, they haven't designed it to be straight forward. They really do like to complicate things, some call it overengineering but I hate it. I'm learning though but I don't really experiment because it does get expensive when you break things. I appreciate the help though and you could have stopped responding but you didn't and still helped and I really appreciate that. I'm a little embarrased haha, I kind of look retarded/slow because of this but it's honestly weird/confusing for a first timer. Thanks again
