09 or 10 E350 4Matics
I'm looking at two E350 4Matics. One a 2010 with 100k miles and one a 2009 with 86k miles.
The 09 (86k) has had control arms recently as well as a 4 wheel alignment and a few other things like brake rotors and the like.
The 2010 (100k) has had very little other than maintenance items like regular oil changes and servicing.
The cars drive out differently. The newer car with more miles feels a little looser than the other.
If you were to ignore the cosmetic and some of the new for 2010 user interface features but take into account there is about a three thousand dollar difference between the older one with fewer miles and the newer one...which would you suggest? Is there that big a difference in reliability between the two? Is the newer model a lot more advance design?

They're all as reliable as they were treated. If the 2010 has a solid history of regular maintenance then I'd trust it. I'm driving an 08 E550 4-Matic with 160K+ and it was maintained like a NASA shuttle.

2008 E350 4Matic, 2011 E350 4matic
The thing is, the 2009 is a W211 and the 2010 is a W212. And this site splits up the two into two separate forums. The 2009 is considered the best of the W211 whereas the 2010 is the first year of the W212. I've looked at some of the topics on the W212 forum and there doesn't appear to be anything major that comes out. The difference would really be whether you prefer the newer or older body style. On the W212, there are also some new options that weren't available on the W211, but most cars just had the basic P1 option package, things like Bixenons, pano roof, parktronic, keyless go are a bit more rare. A lot more things happened on the W212, in 2012, they went with a direct injection engine so it's a more powerful engine, then there was a minor refresh in 2014.

Now at 83K, our '09 E350 4Matic has been bullet proof, a great car, but...the GPS is difficult to use and mounted too low on the dash for convenient use. The dash board layout and GPS were re-designed for 2010.
