You can't just put HID bulbs in non-HID housing. You'd need to do an HID conversion kit.

+1 HID into non-HID is a non starter. What type of look are you trying to achieve?

I don't care about the look. I just want brighter lights, I don't want a blue light, I want white. I bought these and they aren't as bright as I would like to have

Great Mike at ANZ is an expert on the lights for our cars, bulbs are well built and he stands behind his work.

I'm interested in what options there are for 07 E550s with halogen projectors. I'd like to do an HID upgrade as well, though I'm not really into the idea of a complete projector retrofit.

AZN sells a Morimoto plug and play conversion kit, other members have purchased other kits.
Search the forum and you'll find plenty of information. Here is one thread:

Thanks. I thought people were eluding to not using a kit like this and doing a proper retrofit. I've not used Morimoto before but have tried several other kits over the years.

Does anyone know if each headlamp is on it's own circuit? Do people usually run separate relays?

Although halogen projectors do not capture the proper focal point of HIDs unlike xenon projectors, for all practical matter, most deem them good enough rather than go through the hassle of full retrofit.

Our Morimoto HID kit are complete plug and play kits for your system and include bulbs, wiring harness, igniters, ballasts, and canbus cancellers that all simply plug together and into your vehicle.

Morimoto are one of the top units out there which is why we decided to distribute for them as most MB customers wanted a higher grade unit for their luxury vehicle.

If you need any assistance, please feel free to shoot us a PM or email directly at AZNOptics@gmail.com

Just bought the kit. Has anyone done this install before that can offer suggestion on the mounting placement of the ballast?

Thanks
Pete

I just stuck mine in front of the strut mounts with double-sided tape. Put them wherever you like & is convenient but no matter what you do, DO NOT place them near any electronic component (i.e., ECU, ABS module, SAM, etc). The electromagnetic interference can possibly blow something out.

When I get around to retrofitting my E55 projectors, I'm going to try and secure them under the headlight housing where the factory ballasts are supposed to go.

IMHO, the Morimoto kits are among the best aftermarket options out there. Good quality, reliable and the closest thing to OEM.

Great, thanks for the feedback EuroDriverSD. Did you remove the headlights to do the installation? If not, did you remove the wheels as you work per side? I have been doing some reading and it seems some removed the bumper and headlights to do it and others were able to simply remove the wheel and wheel liner to get it done.

I had my local shop install the kit, but I stood by. They didn't have to raise the car or remove anything. The trickiest part was removing/reinstalling the metal clips that hold the bulbs.

Great. Will update once they are delivered and I do the install. Sounds like no need to take the bumper off. Might get some scraped form arms since there is not a lot of space in there to work.

^you dont need to remove the wheel or the bumper.

just remove the cover behind the headlight housing, which you need to drill or cut a hole through (depending if you have hard plastic or rubber as a cover) to pass the HID wiring btw. EuroDriver is right, there is NO 2 way to re-install the new bulb with the metal clips. i had to cut the original clips to fit the new HID bulb. its tricky but when you figure it out, its really easy. goodluck!

In my case, I didn't have to cut the clips - just had to push fairly hard (I had to do it when the installer gave up trying). I'm dreading the day I have to remove them, lol!

If you don't want to deal with that hassle, look around online or maybe AZN Optics can help you, but I've seen aftermarket clips online that are already re-sized to fit HID capsules & they're pretty cheap.

Thanks for all the tips. I will check online for aftermarket clips since it sounds like that will make the install process go much easier.

Where did everyone put the igniter and can bus canceller? I got the passenger side done. I think I need to buy a new metal bracket because I mistakenly cut through it when trying to modify it. I bought aftermarket brackets but could never get them installed. I am not certain the factory one I cut is connected very well. The good news is the lighting is a ton better.

The drives side does not look like it will be fun as there is less room. I also think I am going to order some Velcro strips to hold the ballast in place.

2009 E550 2000 Honda civic mash n' go
Installed 5000k inovited HID's with canbus cancelers yesterday. Very pleased with look and didn't have to modify anything. Need to drill a hole in both covers and mount ballasts. Besides that it was very easy. Light output is significantly better. Day and night difference.
