08 E class main battery replacement
My main battery is from 2011. Left headlights on yesterday and battery was dead. Wouldn't start this morning. #1 question : Do I need to get a Mercedes battery? #2 question : IF I don't and change it out myself, will I mess up the electronics? Many Many thanks!!

Doesn't it need to be normalized? That is, opening and closing the sunroof and holding the button, opening and closing the windows and turning the steering wheel lock to lock?
This has come up many times. If you have an Advance Auto near you, you can get an AGM battery from them and have them install it for free for you. PepBoys charges and Autozone also does the same thing. You can find discount codes on retailmenot for Advance auto and take $50 off the list price which is $185 so $135 after the discount code. Autozone also carries it, but they are $175 and they only have a 10% discount code now so it'd be $157.50. They are probably $300 at the dealer.
Also a 2011 battery can probably just be charged up, take it to a parts store and they'll put it on a fast charger for free and you'll be good to go after an hour or two. Rapid charging the battery isn't that good for it so if you just buy a cheap 2-10amp charger, you can charge it up at home if you're capable of doing that and let it take 5-20 hours.

I disconnected the battery (I only have one) about a year ago and reset the windows and sunroof, but did not turn the steering wheel lock to lock. What does this do? A year later, I haven't noticed anything as a result.
