Replacement of Engine Coolant Temp sensor?
Hello, I'm looking to replace the ECT in my '06 E350. Changed the thermostat today following a P0128 error code and while the old one did seem a bit worn, I'm not convinced that it alone was the problem, and after idling for about 5-10 minutes the engine was not up to 80C. I feel like I have pretty good Google-fu, but have not been able to find anything at all regarding the location of this sensor. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thank you!
edit: after searching the forums, I found this in a post by konigstiger. If I could please get verification before I go rooting around in back of the engine, I'd appreciate it!

I can let my cdi idle for over 20 minutes and it will not come up to temperature. Try driving it for 10 miles and see what happens.

Just went through this on my E550. It was in the same place as noted in the link you posted. Konigstiger pointed it out to me as well with a slightly different attachment in my thread. Wasn't particularly easy to change since you can't see it at all. In my case it didn't make a difference.

I can idle my Detroit diesel for 5 hr and it will not come to 80C.
Since you are dropping the parts not knowing what actually is bad, I advise you to buy infra-red thermometer.
Those with laser pointer go on sale at Harbor Freight for $19 and you will find lot of uses for it.
In this case you will know in about 3 seconds if the sensor is actually bad.
