Replacement of Engine Coolant Temp sensor?

Hello, I'm looking to replace the ECT in my '06 E350. Changed the thermostat today following a P0128 error code and while the old one did seem a bit worn, I'm not convinced that it alone was the problem, and after idling for about 5-10 minutes the engine was not up to 80C. I feel like I have pretty good Google-fu, but have not been able to find anything at all regarding the location of this sensor. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thank you!

edit: after searching the forums, I found this in a post by konigstiger. If I could please get verification before I go rooting around in back of the engine, I'd appreciate it!

I can let my cdi idle for over 20 minutes and it will not come up to temperature. Try driving it for 10 miles and see what happens.

How much confirmation do you need. The pic is clear as day. Time to get your hands dirty mate!

Just went through this on my E550. It was in the same place as noted in the link you posted. Konigstiger pointed it out to me as well with a slightly different attachment in my thread. Wasn't particularly easy to change since you can't see it at all. In my case it didn't make a difference.

I can idle my Detroit diesel for 5 hr and it will not come to 80C.
Since you are dropping the parts not knowing what actually is bad, I advise you to buy infra-red thermometer.
Those with laser pointer go on sale at Harbor Freight for $19 and you will find lot of uses for it.
In this case you will know in about 3 seconds if the sensor is actually bad.

Thanks! I know I should have done this, but I was being lazy. And good news: changing the thermostat cleared my P0128 error code! It now reaches ~97C within 4 minutes of cold start and stays there for the duration of the trip (whereas before it would take about 10-20 minutes to reach ~60C). Thank you anyway for the confirmation on the ECT, I was so unsure because I'd watched what few videos I could find (seriously thin relevant search results) and none of them had the sensor in this location. Found a bunch of different text documents that pointed all over the place as well. Anyway, thank you! I can chalk up one more successful repair to my relatively inexperienced hands.
