Angry Fuel Tank/Sending Units

I have read so many issues about the fuel smell in the 07 E350s. When you remove the rear seat, you can literally see the fuel leaking near the sending unit. You have to replace the entire fuel tank, approx. $2000 to remedy this. I recently read about a 15 year warranty extension from MB, that specifically states gas-fueled model year 2003-2009 E Class will be extended, but when i called dealer, they checked my VIN and it doesn't apply! Thoughts and feedback welcome.

VIN? PZEV? Depending on state it was originally purchased tank replacement may be covered at no cost up to 15 years/150,000 miles under Emission Warranty.

Check under rear seat cushion, if this is source of smell should be covered by 15 year extended warranty.

Seems odd that a car with the same problem that initiated the 15 year extended warranty wouldn't be included.....I wonder why they excluded the PZEV's fuel tank if it causes the same issues. You can literally see the fuel residue when you lift rear seat. You cannot fill the tank over 13 gallons because if you do, you cannot tolerate the fuel odor. Crazy.

You are covered through 2021/unlimited mileage.

The dealer gave me a hard time with the replacement so I called MBUSA to let them know of my dissatisfaction with the dealer and MBUSA called the dealer the same day 4 days later repair was done. Try calling MBUSA

There is a vin decoder on the tool bar under tools at the top of the page. The vin decoder will give you all the information on your car. I did not see The PZEV standard under your vin. But you should call MBUSA because that's who issued the extended warranty

Thank you, I will have to do lots more reading.... For what its worth, my car is California's. And according to the information on hand, it is PZEV. So to clear the confusion... if it is Pzev, then it is cover, right??

Yes, covered under PZEV Emission Warranty. Present data card & warranty page in post 2 above to SA.

2006 E320 CDI
I have an 2006 E320 diesel with the same tank leak and dealer told me it is not covered.

Has anyone had a diesel tank repair covered?

I believe the fuel leak warranty only applies to gasoline engines so diesel wouldn't be covered.

You can also run your VIN through this site:

http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Mercedes-Benz

If you have 917, then you have Pzev and only the 15/150k warranty applies. It's worse if you're in a non Pzev state and you have Pzev, the warranty is even shorter.

Konigstiger, thank you for the information. If you didn't checked, I probably still smelling gas. Dealer just put a new tank in my car. But now I might have to get a new intake manifold, any suggestion, OEM vs Aftermarket? I know this is different topic.
