Nothing like a cheap person driving a luxurious vehicle.... perpetrating a fraud.

Snap on diag equipment is nice, depending on which one and how up to date software is. I would first being doing a leak down/compression test on the engine before you start looking at a ecu. I mean there are bulletins for your exact complaint, intermittent/inconsistent misfire. I Posted them here, do with them as you please.

edit: only place you are getting a ecu, Mercedes Benz Dealership.

No idea if they flashed the ME.
Oil change could be done by a child. Drain, replace plug, replace filter, fill.
Its the oil that is important, and that was the proper stuff.

Yeah, long list of repairs. Glad they were done.
If the plugs were shot, I would think two things, one merc would have told me, two it would be always a problem, and never stop.

Yeah, I am jewish, and embrace my cheapness.

In hind sight I should have gotten a E350 2011 certified preowned for $20,000 with unlimited mileage warranty.

My goal is still being under $3000 in repairs, and so far so good. Don't think an ECU and flash would cost that much.

The indie I am using is on mechanic computer by snap-on.

You have a bad cylinder head....

Customer complaints of misfire, rough running and diminished performance on vehicles with 272 or 273 engines. Check Engine Light CEL (MIL) might be on. Compression and or leak down test results show values out of specification.

Replace affected cylinder head on engines up to engine numbers as indicated below. For similar conditions with engines outside of the serial number range, thorough investigation must be conducted including bore scoping combustion chamber for evidence of valve seat wear. Otherwise, claims could be rejected if the origin of the problem is not properly determined and not confirmed with evidence.

Engine 273 5.5L produced up to November 2009 – engine number 273.9xx 30 342934

Engine 273 4.6L produced up to August 2009 – engine number 273.9xx 30 328842

Engine 272 3.5L produced up to August 2009 – end engine number 272.9xx 31 322249

Engine 272 3.0L produced up to June 2009 – end engine number 272.9xx 31 267324

Ok, I told the indie, he will add it to his list of tests if he can't figure it out as being another issue.
He had the same thought I do, that is compression is diminished it should not be able to be restarted, and sometimes run perfect for hundreds of miles.
He will check it thou.
They are going to start working on it tomorrow, and hopefully have an answer by friday. Not bad for $90.

no!

Companies call themselves as legit ecu repair shops.

yeah you believe that if you want....

"married to vehicle" married to vin. Germany would never allow such things. Sad but true.

You can end the embracing your cheapness notion. You my friend need to trade that thing in on a toyota or something Japanese if cheap is what you are looking for. Mercedes are far from cheap.

Hindsight is 20/20 I have this car, and will for no less then a year.
I should have gotten the CTS-v I was thinking about getting, but I had never owned a merc, so I wanted to get one.
I hope its just valve seats.

those are nice too. If it is the valve seats expect to fork out some coin. Very labor intensive job. Be careful also because the readings on your leak down/CT may be reading good but 1 seat is slightly unfavorable causing diminished engine running.

How much is the ECU by itself? if I can get the local merc indy to program it?
I will most likely flash the ME first, but am trying to plan for what looks like a bad ECM.

Silly thought, this all started after an oil change?
Could they have messed something up?

vacuum test shows it is a valve issue.
He is writing up a quote now, and will get back to me with labor tomorrow for head removal, rebuild and reinstall.
Glad it is not the ECU.
He said the intake makes a pop sound and the vacuum drops from -15 to -10.
It could be a broken valve spring, but not really sure until he takes off the valve cover.

What a busy thread, has anything been solved?? I guess the lesson learned is that a $200 PPI trumps the savings of a $6200 purchase price!!

Dealer told me I could not do a PPI, instead of walking away as I should have, I bought the car.
That being said, the PPI would most likely not show anything, because the running issues didn't start until 3 days after I got the car.

Glad he was able to figure it out. IF i were you i'd take videos and photos of readings. Go to the dealership you bought vehicle at, IF in fact its MERK dealership, and lay photos and readings on Service Director/Managers desk and be like, wtf is this?

So he had the engine almost all the way apart, and its not a valve. He did an valve cover off leakdown test, and it came back good. He is researching electrical issues now, he said the coils are getting super hot now. Total cost to me until this point? $90.

wtf, he took the valve cover off???? to do the test . Never heard of that as of course your readings will be off because the engine isn't sealed... 90 bucks aint bad.
How did he determine it isn't a bad valve seat?

Coils getting hott???? That would lead me to believe they are drawing to much current, but why?
