2006 E320 CDI
Central Gateway unit
My '06 E320 CDI went south as I was going north on I-35 just inside Iowa last Wednesday. I got ESP (visit workshop), then ABS, then coolant warnings before I lost all power. Des Moines dealership (after $300 tow) diagnosed the central gateway unit and replaced it. Now on my way back through Oklahoma, all the same messages without the "pop" the introduced the first power loss. Both times the gear shift will not get out of park. After the car sat for a few hours, it started, then and now. I suspect a faulty central gateway replacement. But before I tow this now to Dallas (more than a $300 tow, I suspect (140 miles out), any suggestions? I'll call the Des Moines dealership in the morning, to be sure.

Ask about MB's 12 month/12k warranty.

I don't have an answer for your car's problems, but your wallet's issues could be lessened with a AAA+ Premium membership: 200 miles of free towing, up to twice a year. Costs way less than your first tow.
Been a member for a decade and have gotten more benefits than they've gotten in premiums.
