Do a search for those error codes. Pretty much all the time it's the balance shaft. A well known problem with that particular year engine.

Yeeah every single post says it is a balance shaft but i found a few posts plus video where balance shaft was ok .....
still no one confirm why i can not hear any sound coming out of timing chain cover ? As we all know and as of simple mechanical bases , if the sprocket on the balance shaft has worn out teeth so timing chain going on this worn our sprocket makes friction and sound which i dont hear in my engine ...
thats why i have a question if besides of balance shaft there could be some other things cousing my timing off ???

you need balance shaft and new chain, timing is way off, chain isn't necessary but why wouldn't you replace it for 200 dollars if front cover is already removed ya know, and they do stretch over time.
estimate from benz stealership is accurate as can be. Reason i say that is because Mercedes Corporate requires you to replace certain bolts, oil pump, lower oil pan, pulse wheels ect ect. Everything on there is correct however all is not needed. Dealerships will do that to cover their *** in case a customer trys to be like, "wis instructions state to replace this and I don't see it on the estimate" catching my drift?
manifold replacement and or tumble flap repair kit, me personally replace manifold, it went 110k without any issues.
codes 1200/1208 balance shaft!

and teeth and gear on shaft can be completley gone and no abnormal noises heard. however you saying falling flat before 3000 rpm is a tale tale sign that shaft is effed up.

This weekend i pulled apart intake manifold, i did replace triangle shape part which moves right and left set of flaps, oil cooler housing plus oil cooler replaced , coolant system flushed , new coolant in plus new oil 0W40 Mobil 1 and filter, throttle body was serously dirty and i did clean it so looks brand new , injectors clean.... I did put together and engine runs much better now , acceleration and sound is great , 24 mpg on hwy , i just dont have a scanner to reset the codes , soo idle rpm is slightly above 800 rpm and has i bit vibration
how to reset the codes without scanner ? I disconnected negative battery but i think i should positive ?? Computer still keeps old codes
can u help me wtih that ???

For OBDII codes, any ELM327 scanner should work, most people like the BAFX one on Amazon. Or you can go to any auto parts store and use their scanner, it's normally free. They won't reset the codes for you, but they will let you borrow their scanner and it's pretty simple to hit the clear button to get rid of the codes.
I've been using the X431 Launch EasyDiag Plus about $48 on eBay. The plus version comes with software for 2 vehicle manufacturers and works fine on Mercedes, it pulls MB specific codes for my 2008 and 2011.

That's what you normally use to clear error codes, whether they come back after clearing them is another story. Some codes go away on their own after a while. Not sure if these will or not.
Those ELM327 or the X431 will work with android or iphone, usually with ELM327, it works with android but x431 has an option for iphone or android.

those 2 codes are specific to balance shaft wear. because it offsets only one side of the motor timing that comes before the balancer gear...
and if your coins don't align behind the sensors that's a definite balance shaft issue.
stretched timing chain I belive would offset timing on both heads..
theres no way to know how bad the balance shaft is worn the earlier you do it the better.
if I drove the car another few months the teeth would break off and destroy oil pump and possibly cylinder walls.

if you don't want to mess with fixing it then find a replacement motor on ebay with low mileage.
if your car is not 4matic its relatively easy to swap the motor from a newer e class. theres a lot of them for around 2000-3000 online

As other said, those codes are probably the balance shaft and the codes will probably come back. I don't know what year your E38 was, after 1996, they had the OBDII port on all cars, prior to that it was OBDI. So if it was OBDII, then it should work for just OBDII codes. The X431 does MB specific codes, but the codes you're getting are just OBDII codes so any OBDII scanner will work. Most ELM327 are bluetooth which doesn't work on iphone, but you can find ones that are wifi.

I have no idea what software you have so don't really know. Most people with an ELM327 use Torque on Android, but there's lots of software out there that will work with multiple brands.

Timing will only look off on 1 side because only 1 side has tension on it (chain tensioner). IN reality timing is off on both seeing as there's 1 chain doing all the work!
and +1 on ebay junkyard motors. lot less of a hassle!

but mine is only on bank 1 exhaust camshaft ?? Other side is good in center ....soo 2 intake camshafts drive by chain are good and marks in center

heres a picture that explains it perfectly why those codes are dead giveaway for balance shaft
the pass side of the engine timing is off because of the worn balance shaft gear
chain stretch = both heads timing is off
worn cam gear sprockets = both heads timing is off
