bi-xenon lights problem

Hi driving to work in my 2003 e500 I thought I lost my lights. I could not see in front of me. When I got to work the lights were on but very dim. When I turn on the high beams the main lights stay same dim and the inner halogen high beam lights turn on.

What could this be anyone have any idea?

Ballast or bulb. Do you get a message on your dash? Best bet is to get it scanned and see what error codes you have.

I ordered new bulbs to try first, I have no lights saying anything in the dash. They just dimmed out both at the same time on the highway, really strange.

I hope you will fix your issue euromarko.

Just want to ask a question here, I hope it is ok. Is the inner halogen the bulb acting as high beam only? Or does the outer xenon-bulb change angle and also acts as high beam? I thought Bi-xenon should be xenon in both low and high beam?

It's the way bi-xenons are designed. There's a shutter that has to move out of the way to get high beams on the bi-xenons, but that takes time so they have the inner halogens also in case you want to use the flash to pass feature of the high beams or to just signal someone. The shutters are too slow for that hence the need for the inner high beams.

Thank you so much. Sounds like it's a very good solution. A bit like double high beams.

Now back to topic.

guessing they are burning out, They slowly dim as they near EOL more purple in color. If they are set as DRL they will not last as long. I went through 2 sets of bi-x on my 2005 set as DRL. They are a DIY but it takes a flexible and patient hand.

Every bi-xenon I've ever had has been instant as soon as you flick it. The shutter drops immediately when the 12v source is applied to it. The turning on of the halogens takes longer to actually come on than the shutter does to allow the entire beam to shine through the projector housing...

OP: Check the ballasts/bulbs. That would be to start first. I had a ballast that was defective that caused a very dim light output.
