Glove Box Shelf

Just got the part in today and installed it there. For $52.00 at the House of Imports, you can also have this lovely item. It actually is worth the money. Now if only I knew how to post pictures, I would...

I ordered the shelf last week and it should be in this week. I find it hard to believe that I actually paid that much money for it, but I think that the tiny glove box would be much more useful if it was divided.

I should not complain. Compared to my W124, it has tons of storage space. Since I had the passenger airbag, I had no glove box and my armrest did not have any storage in it. So I had this little storage console under the armrest that was covered by a little roll-top desk looking panel. The W211 with the seat compartment and the glove box and the armrest storage, it is no comparison. Much better.

Would you take a look at the invoice & let me know what the part number & description is? I might give it a try.

It's a great deal - delete a part that costs 50 cents to make and sell it back to the customer for $50. A great deal for DCX and Mercedes dealers, that is. Maybe DCX will put out an accessories catalog of decontented parts and features. How much do you suppose a butterfly center console would go for?

Yes, my little shelf cost me $40.95!!! I am a sucker! But I guess this is one of the ways that DCX can make up for loosing money on a weak dollar (just a thought here).

Average $40 for the glove box shelf and $5 for the ashtray mat = $45 x 194,700 = $8,761,500 (saved) + $4,380,750 (estimating 50% of new owners replacing same) brings the total to $13,142,250 for MBUSA increased revenue.

Sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in the U.S. were up more than three percent in November, to 18,800 units. A total of 194,700 vehicles have been delivered to customers in since the beginning of this year.

BTW, the new CLS has gotten off to a tremendous start, with deliveries of 4,200 units in the first two months that the vehicle has been available.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see the point of paying $40 for this. If I had it I might just have taken it out anyway. Maybe someone that got it with their car would be willing to sell it cheaper.

Got Mine! Good Price!

Picked up mine today, it was ordered yesterday. $32.50 + NYS Sales tax of $2.84 = $35.34 Grand total.

You lay it on top of the rails already moulded into the sides of the glove compartment & slide it in gently. Grooves on the underside edge/rear 1/3 of the shelf wrap under the rails for a non jiggleable fit.

The shelf is made of smooth topped 3/8" honeycomb black plastic, with the felt-like black fuzzy glove box fabric on all sides that you can see, with A piece of chrome moulding on the edge that faces the passenger. ...a nicely made part.

There are part numbers moulded onto the bottom of the shelf, but don't order the shelf by those numbers. One is non-existant & the other is a L shapped black plastic "cap" covered in black fuzzy glove box stuff, thats made to cover some sort of hole. It lists at $6.00. The correct part number from my invoice & the box flap is:

211-680-03-30 Floor (Quantity 1 Unit)

Thanks, Omegaonne and to all the others on this masterfull piece of detective work!

The front door storage pockets have a capacity of eight CD jewel boxes. I know that to be true because my wife has a full load of eight in the driver's side storage pocket.

I convert all my CD's to MP3.
With 100 tunes on each CD in the changer + 1200 in the DVD drive (thats equal to approx. 90 CD's) no extra room is required!
