GREEN button on trunk lid? mine has it...I have two kids and they are 11 and 15. Both want to go inside of trunk and open it inside after listening the purpose of the green button. Therefore, they did it.

Not totally true. In many tunnels there is a turn off underground and the map still works. This is called dead reckoning using the speed from both rear wheels. When you turn the outside wheel turns faster and the GPS will calculate this. Yes GPS units also have a "lock to road" feature but only to a set distance. This is how a unit will work in a city with tall buildings when it loses satellite coverage. Most GPS do not have a magnetic of flux compass. The compass you see on a GPS is only while moving

The compass ( in earlier versions anyway) was gyro driven and is the reason why a lot of head units are not interchangeable.

The model depends on the angle it sits in the dash to work the gyro correctly.

It can also be scrambled and there is a workshop procedure to initially install and to re-install a comand so that the Gyro compass works correctly.

If you enable the DRL's, the head and tail lights will come on automatically when daylight levels fall too low. This is even if the switch is set on "O" for off.

You can close the trunk from the button on the driver door by holding it down until the trunk is completely closed. Handy when I opened it on accident at the gas station and did not want to get out of the car.

That's actually the opposite of a feature, lol. This car WILL NOT allow you to turn the lights off completely when it's dark, which is preposterous. I hate how I don't have full control over my headlights. Sometimes you don't want it to come on automatically; say, if you're pulling into a well enough lit garage for a second, etc.

something I don't like about the lights are when you switch them to the off position and you have night vision on, NV goes off too........it's NIGHT VISION!!!!!
this night vision is SUCH a waste............there, I said it.............

I could have just gotten a tv in my seat instead........or spent 1700 bux on ANYTHING
else and still be happy..........LOL............

Haven't tried it since I enabled my DRL's soon after I got the car, but as I recall if switch is set to "O", the lights did not come on no matter how dark it got.
The build date for my car is 11/09 and the switch is a round dial type with a P and arrows for the Left or Right parking lights, O for Off, A for Automatic, setting for all parking lights and setting for headlights. Turn on fogs by pulling switch out when headlights on is selected.
I do consider it a safety feature in that it will not let me drive with just DRL's when it is actually getting dark.

You have the "old" light switch. My 2011 model has only Automatic and ON functions for the main lights. It does have those parking lights for Left and Right and full parking light position.

Fog light switch is a push button now. If you don't have Bi-Xenon lights you will have push button for front and rear fog light separately on both sides of the round light switch. I only have rear fog light button as I have Bi-Xenons.

There is no OFF for the main lights. I really concider it as a safety feature that it is impossible to drive this car without some sort of light ON.

What do you mean by your statement? I understand that there is no DRL switch even with the older models or is there? I thought DRLs work whem light switch is set to AUTO.

They disable Night Vision if driving light switch is set to "0" so that some "not so smart" people would not be driving in pitch dark without any lights ON in the car as that would be a real safety hazard for other drivers and the NV-driver itself. Think about you driving without any lights ON on a two-lane road and someone starts passing a car coming at you as they cannot see you. How would this feel like looking at those very bright lights in NV screen coming right at you?

I see what you're saying, but I tried turning it off while parked and while driving slow to see if I could even pick up any heat sig's, because it is an infrared camera........seems weird, and kind of like a gimmick I really fell for.....
before I got the car and even after, I was trying to justify it's use.........but it sux..........I have seen it pick up and DISPLAY a box once or twice and that's it.........perhaps I don't fully understand it........

well..........oh well.........

I repeat, Who the hell NEEDS AMG. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that AMG is much faster car than 350 but here in U.S. where we can only drive "snailing speeds" who really needs an AMG.

Oh well, who the hell needs a Benz either....

My car has a build date of 11/09 and has a different type light switch from many. In fact, it is not the same as in the Operator's Manual.
To answer your question, on my car there is a section in the Operator's Manual on programming different features. It utilizes the Settings display in the center of the speedometer. One of the items is for lights and then DRL's on or off.
Actually I have long advocated that headlights (or DRL's) should come on on all vehicles as soon as a gear is engaged. Still amazes me how many people drive in low light, rain, fog conditions with no lights or parking lights. As a minimum, if a gear is engaged and parking lights selected, the headlights should automatically come on.

Well, then your DRLs work the same way as mine on my 2011 model. i.e. there is a selection in the menu to enable them or not but no switch or button at light switch.

I agree with you about driving without lights. It is very odd that it still is legal to drive a car in U.S. without at least DRL ON. Some people think you don't need the lights during daylight as they can see well without them but it is not only about to be able to see, it many times is more important to be seen, which many times is compromized by sunlight etc. Just DRLs ON in front of a car makes a huge improvement to visibility on road.

I'm from Europe and I had a 1977 SAAB 96 at one point. This car already had lights that would not allow you to drive without some sort of a bulp ON in the front of the car. If I had light switch OFF the main driving lights were on with half voltage.

I think SAAB is the first car maker who actually made cars with DRLs, which is not the only thing they made first for a car, like turbo charger.

On my '11 E350/P1, if you place the headlight switch two clicks to the left ( <P> ), car started, in park there were no lights whatsoever on the exterior of the vehicle. So, at least with MY 11, you can still do some spying

So if you're in Park, and you turn it two clicks left, the lights don't automatically go on? I could use that when I have the car running in the garage, without the need for headlights.

Just went to the car to double-check. Got in, started the car with the switch in A and the lights come on (of course). Turn two clicks left to the P and all exterior lights go out. Stepped out closed door and walked front and back to be sure, no lights at all. Is that normal?

Wow, interesting. Good to know. How about when you drive? Do they stay off?? That would be an awesome little "trick" around the lights mandatorily coming on. I hate when I go into a lit up garage, and my HID's blast up anyway.
