2010 E350 fogs question
I have a 2010 E350, which has the dual circular fogs. Can anyone give me a crash course on how they work, and under what conditions? The manual isnt' exactly clear. For example, when I activate daytime running lights, the 'outer' pair come on in the daytime, but not at night (my light switch is set to 'A' most of the time). I'd love it if I could get that outer pair on *all* the time.
If I turn the light switch to the 'on' position, I can get the fogs to come on at night if I pull the switch out (my 2010 model doesn't have the separate fog switch). The only time I can get the 'inner' pair to come on is when I get out of the car and (sorry if this is the wrong term) the 'courtesy' lights come on.
Is there any other way to get the outer pair on all the time? Is there any way to get the inner pair on? Could you get both pairs on at the same time in any case? Just curious...thanks!

If you go into the center screen menus (in the gauge cluster) you can set the DRL's to the ON position. That will leave the outer fogs on all the time while driving, day or night. Hope that helps?

i have a 2010 e550 w/p1 which means i also have the qual lights. the outer two are drl and the inner two are fog. i have it set to auto and the drl (outer two) will be on when it's in a not too dim condition. then the regular headlights (lowbeams) will be on when it's getting dark. you can turn on the fog (inner two) at this time if you like but i have two buttons next to the light switch. one is for front fog and one is for rear fog. once the front fog button is pressed, the inner two will be on all the time along w/the lowbeams. i don't think you can have all four on at the same time but i could be wrong.

i have the drl turned on in the menu but they won't turn on at night, only the lowbeams and the inner city lights. i have my lights set to auto mode all the time and haven't tried any other settings, though.

Same for me. I thought turning the DRLs on in the menu would make them come on all the time, but it doesn't. With my switch on Auto, the outer DRLs go off when the headlights come on.

The daytime running lights are just wheat they say...DAYTIME running lights. Maybe they should be called DORL or daytime only running lights. They are automatically turned off at night. US law is pretty clear on automotive lighting so I am guessing this is followed to the T by the setup on the MY10 212 (w/o BiX)

I have a 2010 (Nov. 2009 build date) and there is no way to make the DRL's and Fog Lights come on at same time. In fact, I have the "old" switch with the pull-out fog lights and an Off position on the switch. I leave it in off all the time and the DRL's come on in day time, but when it gets dark or I enter the garage, the DRL's go off and the regular headlights come on automatically.
Apparently, if you have it in Auto the puddle lights and other "entry" lights come on when you unlock the car with the remote (if entry lights are engaged), but if in O for off, entry lights do not come on.
Some posters have said that a Comand update may enable DRL's, fogs and headlights to be engaged at same time, but not sure. Also, unless you can get dealer to accept there is a Comand malfunction, it will cost you about $250 for the update.
Apparently a lot of running changes are made that effect cars differently. My Operator's Manual does not even show the switch that is actually in my car.

I have a 2010 E550 with hockey stick DRLs and they stay on at all times if I have selected them to be on unless I turn fog lights ON. This same worked with 2011 E350 that I had. Both of these cars have Bi-Xenon lights so they don't have fog lighti in front.
The luxury package, that has the four round small lights has DRLs and fog lights and they are different. There is a reason why they do not work at the same time. DRL is a light that beams in pretty much all directions it can. Purpose of this light is to make the car visible to others so the DRL is made to "shine" to all.
Fog light is made to serve when driving in foggy conditions. This light is designed to give very low angle light to show the road. Any light beaming upward will severely impair driver's ability to see so the light beams low. If the DRLs would be ON at the same time you would not get any benefit from the fog light.
MB engineers did not put those lights in the front for the looks, they put them in for reason of safety. Why would they allow DRLs to be ON at the same time fog lights are on as using fog lights would mean the car is being driven under foggy conditions?
With Bi-Xenon lights when fog light is turned on (the one in rear) by pressing that button next to light switch the DRLs go OFF and the main driving lights go to low beam and adjusts itself to closest (lowest) beam position.

I did not do anything for this. It is the way the lights worked since I got the car, which is exactly the same way the 2011 E350 that I owned did it.

I love the Hockey stick DRLs. I've never paid closed enough attention to how low they get at night since they're still quite bright IMO. The look is so menacing that it's one of the highlights of the look of the car.

Glad to know! Thanks, I also have the same problem. I just bought my 2010 e350 4matic and it came with the four round lights at the bottom and when i turn the front fog lights on, only the inner ones come on. I will check on the
"center screen menus (in the gauge cluster) you can set the DRL's to the ON position"
and hope to have four of them come on all the time! Thanks

The four hockey pucks in the front, my inner comes on with ONE pull, the SECOND pull turns the rear fog light on. I'm wondering how I get four hockey pucks to turn on, that's all?? Not sure about the hockey stick, mine didn't come with that.
