2012+ E550 Performance upgrades
Hey guys,
I sold my 2007 E63 and only have my Jaguar XFR and would like to trade up again but this time to the new BiTurbo 2012+ E550 4Matic.
I have some questions about these new setups and maybe some of you know the answers.
I want to have my tuner flash the ECU and I compared his data vs all the others like Renntech, OE, Eurocharged and he claims more than all of them.
See below:
( Recently, we just finished finalizing data for the all new 4.6L V8 bi-turbo engine that resides in the ML, E, S, CL, CLS, and SL class of the Mercedes Benz lineup. After perfecting the software for the 2012+ 63 AMG’s early last year (January 2011), we believed the 550′s could benefit instead of gaining the 60hp 80lbs tq we originally achieved. The end result you might ask…well astonishing to say the least. Through reprogramming of the ECU, we take nearly every 550 class Mercedes to 515hp & 619lbs tq, and it doesn’t stop there. Along with a tune, all hesitation/flatspots are removed, speed limiter is eliminated, volume is raised in 2nd and 3rd gear, and shifting is smoother all while increasing fuel economy. Gains: ML550, CLS550, E550 – 113hp & 176lbs tq S550, SL550, CL550 – 86hp & 103lbs tq ) 550 Twin Turbo = $1,500
1 of my questions do any of the tuners I mentioned also tune the TCU at all? I want to get the 4Matic an d not the RWD and want to know is there any other differences as well.
Next I want to see what has or could be done in other areas to free up a bit more bottled up power.
What can be done with the intake so far or just toss in some filters like BMC like other models prior?
Any tricks for the exhaust or just replace the resonators with a X-Pipe and be done with it?
I want to retain the sleeper look and this E550 may achieve just that.
I probably would keep using the Varex mufflers as they are the sweetest thing since sliced bread I have found so far for controlling the sound level.
And lastly how would warranty be handled with just ECU tune? Can you just flash it back and not be seen or is it like GM and other cars where it says how many flashes were done and you get screwed? I want to keep it simple, under warranty, and still be a sleeper

IIRC, all 2012 E550 sedans are 4Matic equipped - at least I didn't see a 4Matic delete option using the "Build Your Own" feature. You could still get a non-4Matic in 2010 and 2011, but those E550s use the old M113 engine.

I see that the 4 door is 4Matic and the coupes are RWD, I also heard the coupe is built on the C-Class .
I wonder what is different from ML550, CLS550, E550 and the S550, SL550, CL550 as the tunes have 2 different gains for the 2 different groups?
I dont want the 2011 and prior, I want the BiTurbo motor of course.

I think I would get ECU reprogrammed and also upgrade the brake, I believe if you have more forwarding power, then you must have more stopping power. I would upgrade to E63 brake sets.

Renntech is getting 530 HP & 606 TQ from their tune on the 2012+ E550. They tend to be conservative in their power claims. I didn't see an available TCU tune either but it may be the location of the TCU is not easily accessible?
I was just checking dragtimes.com to see if any have run down the track with the tune but did not find any results on a tuned 2012 E550. I'm interested in seeing some results other than a dyno.

MBUSA site shows the coupe E550 to be RWD only and the sedan 4Matic unless it is a typo.
Tjdehya: I am not looking for much, just a solid tune, and some breathing mods like intake/exhaust.
hyperion667: Here is a few pix of my Jaguar XFR aka the "Draguar".
The car is fast, I only got 1 pass with it and snatched a record with it:
I hope to sell it to get a new E550, anyone want the worlds fastest Jaguar? still under dealer warranty and all since I used OEM parts from the deale to mod it.

Porsche 911 Turbo S 2014! E63S 14, Audi S8 13, CLS63 12, E550 12, C63 09, all tuned
I have 2012 E550 4matic with a Renntech tune only.
I ran 1/4 mile 12.5 sec. 113mph. The tune is definitely worth doing.
Is there a way to turn off traction control on the 4matics?

Karl901: The Renntech tune only gives you 1 MPH and shaves 3/10ths off? Are you spinning at all or is the Trac light blinking a lot on the launch?
I was thinking the E550 tuned would spank my Jag , but it is not looking that way just yet? My 0-60 is 3.9 on the street as per the V-Box, I would think the MB 4 Matic is def better than my suck *** RWD.
2012 Mercedes CLS550 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.8
TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 4.2 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 12.8 sec @ 112 mph

Any reason you are going with the E550BT and dumped the E63?? Renntech/Kleemann/Weistec have power upgrades that would trump the E550BT, no offence to any E550BT owners

The different tune amounts likely reflect the fact that the factory tunes for each model are produce different output from the same engines.

Porsche 911 Turbo S 2014! E63S 14, Audi S8 13, CLS63 12, E550 12, C63 09, all tuned
Hey, I am not a drag racer. Had no wheel slip I noticed. But there is a big difference from stock E550 bi turbo. Most drag times in articles are hard for average person to reproduce. I am sure the time can be lower. I need to put it Dyno mode next time.

One more thing, Renntech limited the TQ in 1st gear to protect the 4 matic drive train. The car really launches in second gear. This is why AMG never offer a 4 matic option. I am sure the new 2014 Amg 4matics are not stock.

I was expecting the times of a 100% Stock E63.

He had the 07 E63 which it was probably the slowest of the M156 powered cars. The E550 with a tune is quicker. You are thinking in your mind the 5.5 TT E63 but this is not the case, he had a 07 E63.

Even though your times are good I am not too impressed(please don't take it personal), I am looking for a E550 2014 right now myself. I am just saying that the Renntech tune should had give you better times.

e550 performance discount on renntech??
does anyone know if there is a way to get the price of the renntech ecu upgrade down a little bit, its very expensive at 2700 plus dealer charges an hour or labor to take ecu out and ship it .. also if I take the ecu out myself and send it will I have a problem with mb factory warranty???? In order to not have any warranty issues do I need to have the dealer take it out and send it to renntech for me???? Are there any other performance upgrades anyone can recommend for maximum gains??? I have found the renntech ecu tune is best for daily driver and power .. I pick my e550 up in a few days and I want to upgrade it asap... any advice would be greatly appreciated, THANK YOU!!
