Need recommendation on new tire purchase
#51
ive been researching tires recently too and it seems like everyone has good things to say about contintental dws and michelins in general. Ive had michelins on my cars for the past8+ years and on most of my family members cars and honestly have never had a complaint. its really just a matter of whether id get a summer tire or allseason... the car will never ever see snow so summer seems like a good choice the shorter tread life is a con

Update on conti PURE contact
Now have 10k miles on the conti PUREcontact tires. cant be more pleased withthe tires. still see plenty of tread DWS imprint is tires still very visible and crisp. as you can tell, the selling feature for me is the increased treadware of the tire. i'm not an aggressive driver but do hit 75mph on my daily commute. so far so good.

Thanks for the update jures! Anyone else have a new tire update?? I need to replace mine before winter here in N.E. and I will not get Conti's due to past issues with road noise. Much appreciated everyone.

I've put about 10k miles on the conti extreme DW summer tires so far. Simply put, the tires are wonderful. Good wear, great grip, especially in wet conditions. I'm very impressed with the lack of hydroplaning in rain. A huge improvement over the stock conti all season. Very quiet tire. Also very nice looking tire on the car. I will buy another set when these are ready to be replaced. I'm guessing I can get 25 to 30k miles out of these based on the current wear.

One other note. I have the sport wheels that take the same odd-ball size as the AMG wheels. When I bought them I was comparing them to the mich pilot. I payed less than $650 for a set of 4 from tire rack. My Mercedes dealer (Brumos) installed them. I think it was a great deal considering the price of the pilots.

I'm going to be shopping for tires for My 2010 E 350 Sport. One of the down sides of this car (and there are few) is the fact with the staggered wheel configuration and I can't rotate the tires like I'm used to. It also looks like you need to have an engineering degree to understand all the tire codes and everything. I'm looking for something quiet! I have Pirelli P-zero Nero and I think they are loud. They are worn (23k miles if you can call that worn) but they are loud. Has anyone tried Goodyear.

First, I know some do not like Consumer Reports and disagree with everything they say, but their 2015 Buying Guide is out. They rate tires and two of the criteria are Ride Comfort and Noise. Several years ago I used their ratings to replace noisy, harsh riding Michellins on an SUV with Dunlops. Very obvious improvement in comfort and lower noise levels.
Not saying CR is correct or the best, but it is a source that specifically evaluates noise and comfort. Just something else to consider.
Not saying you want to do this, but might consider stepping down a level on speed rating.

X2. Had the P-Zero's with a similar experience. The noise was unbearable after ~20,xxx miles. I rode them out to the 30k service and replaced with the Conti DWS. Very please with both wear and noise on the first 10k.

I like the Conti Extreme Contact DWS. OEM tires on my '09 C300 only got about 22K mi (the rears were shot and staggered width so I couldn't rotate). I replaced with DWS and they were overall really good (I'm driving in NE Winters). The wear was decent, the price reasonable and TireRack rated them relatively high, especially for snow and ice which I was interested in. The dry performance was decent as well. I will certainly look at these again when it's time to change but I'm curious to see how the OEM Conti ProContacts perform.

coming off a set of OEM Michelin Primacy MXM4 245/45R17 99H. Thinking of replacing with same model, but came across good pricing on the Goodyear Eagle Sport 245/45R17 95W. Mileage and treadwear specs are very similar. Average review rating 4/5 on tirerack up there with Primacy. Anyone have any experience with the Eagle Sport?

2 days on a set of Continental ControlContact Sport A/S tires, replacing a damaged set of P-Zero's. My car does not have staggered rims, my criteria was ability to rotate, noise, wet weather handling and treadlife. I drive this car conservatively not 20 mph not 80. just go with the flow.
No surprises so far but then again they replaced a set of tires with about 31K on them. The P-Zero's were fairly noisy - these are quieter but not as quiet as my past experiences with Michellin's (not on a MB though).
The price was in my opinion quite reasonable. I've had DWS's on a previous car (modified crown vic) and was very happy with them. That experience leaned me towards the Continentals on the MB, plus what I've read here.
I think in all cases, it's the long term results that count.

Pirelli P-Zeros
Ok, I have a 2010 E550 Sport which came with the Pirelli Nero Zeros. Got a nail in an edge had to replace, no big deal, but did buy a correct 18" rim from Tirerack to have a full sized spare that would fit front and back.
I have not experienced scarier and nosier tires in my life! Yes they are very noisy but they hydroplane like no other tire I've run!
We don't get much snow/ice in West TX but even with the little bit of ice left over under the overpass it is heart stopping.
I've run the Conti Extreme DW's on my BMW 635/manual year round and it was a great tire. Very soft but great traction and handling.
I will be putting the Conti Extreme DWS on the 550 when it comes time.

2013 e 350 Luxury 4matic sedan
need recommendation on new tire purchase
When I took delivery of my new 2013 e-350 4matic Luxury I was driving home thinking I made the wrong decision buying this car as it really had a rough ride. I discovered it had run flats on it and researched them coming to the conclusion that was causing the poor ride. The dealer understood the ride trade off for run flats and offered to replace the tires with whatever MB offered non run flat. I chose the Mich Primacy MX4M and couldn't believe the change in ride quality. I now have 33,600 miles on those tires and couldn't be more pleased. I just measured the tread depth and all four are 6.5 32nds. I rotate every 6000. I live in Port Clinton Ohio on Lake Erie and as we all know last winter was about as severe a winter as could be remembered. These tires were great. I will definitely replace these with the same MO (Mercedes only) Michelin tires when the time comes. Make sure you have the MO tire designation when you ask for this tire as Mercedes provides a spec to Michelin when building this tire for the suspension on a MB.
