Prepaid Maintenance Plan Cost

I bought the 5 yr/50k miles Mercedes Star Prepaid Maintenance plan at the dealer when I picked up my vehicle. Since I bought it at a Mercedes dealer, I guess mistakenly (?) that it would be the same cost as what MBUSA would charge. I was just on the MBUSA website where I found out the cost was a lot less than what the dealership charged me ($1799 versus $2650+tax). My stupidity for making that assumption and not doing some research prior to buying it. The dealership is not yet open, but I hope I can cancel the plan since I haven't used it yet.

While $850 might be a "suck it up and move on" for some people, it is a big chunk of change.

A few points to ponder

The maintenance cost is different depending on vehicle (diesels cost more) so did you look at the right page or did the dealer charge you for the wrong car?

Prepaid maintenance plans are generally not taxed. Find out if your state actually charges tax on these plans.

There is always an easy fix ofetting it refunded, but do you want a refund or a price adjustment. IIRC, you have until you've used it to get a full refund.

BTW - which dealer?

CEB: totally agree with you that $850 is a big chunk of change. Went by the dealer (Mercedes Benz of Tysons Corner) during lunch, and to their credit, they admitted a mistake and will be refunding me the difference.

They should do more than just refund the difference. At the very least, they should give you a set of floor mats and a trunk mat.

This was no "mistake." MB of Tysons has a reputation for making similar mistakes - oddly enough always in their favor.

Also, be very careful when taking your car in for service. They are very crowded and have a tight lot. Lot damage is common. Make sure that you do a walkaround with the Service Advisor before you release the car to them and do another walkaround before you pick it up. Do NOT move your car if you see any new damage and document it. A "yep, we'll take care of it next week" doesn't work as they will have forgotten about it by then.

In addition, I don't believe that VA dealers should be taxing Service agreements. If they do, then you can buy one online and save the $50 tax

Actually, it appears that VA should be taxing half of the service agreement but not the whole thing.

maybe I mis spoke, or mis understood....
I didn't mean to suck it up, and if you have the chance to get some cash back for the better deal
then by all means......I just meant that if it was too late, then don't beat yourself up....

I had a different "experience" when I leased my MB. The dealer did not mention that MB offered any maintenance package and sold me their own "maintenance package". That night I did some research (yes, I should have done it earlier) and found that MB offered maintenance and that if I purchased the MB maintenance, it would have been included in the price of the car which meant that I would only pay for the difference between the price paid and the residual...rather than the entire amount.

I stopped by the dealer and the financial person who handled the paperwork admitted that she had not mentioned this to me. The sales manager calculated the difference, had I chosen the MB package instead of their own maintenance and cut me a check for the full amount of the difference on the spot without any question.

As it turned out, it worked out fine...and in fact, I am still getting their own maintenance package which is actually better than the MB package because apparently they never sell the MB package so the only prepaid maintenance they know how to do is their own.

You really do have to watch everything......

That makes perfect sense - if you can't change it then don't flog yourself.

Maintenance

I had the same experience when I bought my 2012 E550. I brought it to the dealerships attention and they refunded me the difference. They claimed it was mistake and that the price had changed. I didn't really believe them but since I got part of my money back I didn't care.
