I believe driven sensibly the E250 can easily get low to mid 50's consistently.

Even my 2013 E350 4matic wagon (gas, all wheel drive, heavier than sedan) got 31 mpg on a 1k mile road trip this past fall. That's with 2 adults, 1 child and a weeks worth of luggage. That's calculated mpg, not OBD displayed. Computer was showing close to 33mpg, but the pump gal/miles traveled got me 31mpg.

EPA estimate was 27 so I'm very impressed with MB.

I've had about 50k mile experience in diesel engine cars, and was consistently able to get about 10 to 15% higher than EPA estimates, even without hyper-milling.

You are welcome to "call BS" on anything you so choose. I never owned a 07 E320 Bluetec, so I can't speak to that.

I DID say my 2014 E250 was as quick as my 2008 E350. I did not take the cars to the drag strip to see what each will do in a quarter mile, nor did I check them against a timer for their 0-60 performances. I did say that they felt that way to me in ordinary driving. You know, like driving on the road and stepping on it to pass another car or a slow moving truck.

Is there a point to be making up stories to impress total strangers? Why would you think it was "BS"?

Smile Facts and Observations

First, where did you get the 4400 pound figure for your weight?
Considering that the V6 engines are most likely heavier than the inline four cylinder diesels, one wonders.

Also, I am wondering what the rear-end ratio is for your car?
Reason for asking are your rpms given for your speeds.

Wish I had those overall gear ratios for my older E-320 CDI.
Mine has over the advertised 369 ft/lb of torque to the wheels and would easily pull much higher gears,
although it might not feel as fast on the highway as it now does with its current gearing.

Mine is turning 2000 rpms at an honest 70 mph.

Please keep us posted and be sure to log onto Fuelly.

Regards and Happy New Year from California.

The curb weights are listed on the mbusa.com website. E250 is 4200 lbs, 4matic adds another 200 lbs. The E350 (w/o 4matic) is 4000 lbs.

Is a gasoline v6 really heavier than an i4 diesel? My understanding is that diesel engines are generally quite heavy b/c they have to be built to withstand high compression. Even if the weights of the engine are the same, I assume the AdBlue equipment will add even more weight to the diesel....

Curb weight on the Canadian website quotes 1845KG for a 4Matic E250BT which equals 4059 lbs. The E250BT 4Matic version is 20KG heavier than the E350 4Matic.

Yes ! The factory "Technical Details" for my E250BT indicates
"Gross Vehicle Mass = 1845 kg".

Leaving for a 400 mile trip tomorrow. This will help fill in the missing consumption numbers for me. It will be mostly interstate driving and it will be different than checking for mpg in 10 mile intervals. There will be some hills and traffic, and I certainly hope to get in some spirited driving rather than just fuel consumption maximizing driving. The car will have three adult a bird and truck full of stuff to finish of Christmas with my son and his family.

400 miles to Fort Rucker and 400 miles back. I will be driving it like I stole it, and we'll see if I come anywhere near those 50 plus miles per gallon numbers. I highly doubt it.

I will try to report my findings when I get back.

enjoy your trip. i have not hit the 50mpg instant mark since that picture was taken. that day was the right amount of traffic which caused a max speed of around 65mph and it was fairly constant for a long stretch of highway. if i were able to go the usual 72-75mph on a clearer day with lane passing, i doubt i would have hit that mark. the driving style has to be the right blend of constant speed and coasting, to get the higher numbers.

i am just about to fill up again, and my previous numbers are holding up. the one thing i was mistaken on was my fuel gauge reading is around 1/4 of a tank (instead of the 1/8 i wrote) when i usually fill up. that explains why i only put around 16-17 gallons in the tank each time. anyway, i'm hovering around 38mpg combined with a mix of highway and city roads. i am extremely satisfied! my wife's lexus es300h gets the same ~38mpg combined as well. i gotta say, life's a little better without the need to pump the oil industry's pockets full of cash every week.

looking forward to your impressions of the trip...

Thanks.
Or should I have said "tanks"?

Just out of curiosity, what tire pressures are you running?
Door post and the decal under the filler door show significantly different pressures.
I am starting the trip with 34 FRONT (cold) and 40 REAR (cold) which is substantially higher than what they pressures were when I first did my mileage runs.

hah. i don't want to come off as a hyper miler, but the efficiency stuff is the new black. if you're not getting 35mpg, you're not even in the game.

i actually haven't checked TP since delivery. the temps stay fairly consistent out here, and i will have to rotate the tires in 2 months anyway.

Hi Guys. This is great thread. I've been away from MB camp for years and but I am now considering E250 BT as my next ride. Would love to hear more mpg stories as well as any issues during the initial ownership. Thanks.

Would like to see you and the others also start entering F E results on Fuelly.

There are no E-250 BTs listed there at all at this time.

There are other models listed there with the same engine, but an
SLK does not compare with the C/D or weight of a BT sedan.
Also, GLKs don't compare either.

So please get onboard with Fuelly and let us see all your results.

Love to read all comments by everyone.

Talked to a fellow several days ago that did not know anything about
his new (in September) beautiful Tabacco Brown metallic BT.
I do not know what the official MBZ name is for that color?
He argued with me when I mentioned that his car was a four cylinder,
insisting that it was a six cylinder. He said he was leasing it and had
had several MBZs prior to this new BT.
He liked the fuel economy but did not state what it was.

Really not what I'd call a 'car-nut'!

^ i am finally showing up on fuelly. i don't currently drive that many miles so it took 3 months to collect enough data. i filled up early today just to get the data out there.

i currently do 60% city and 40% highway. my trip computer from taking delivery of the car at the dealership reads 37.3mpg. in a few months, i will switch to significant highway driving for commuting, so we'll see how that impacts my average.

one thing to note is that if someone does more city driving vs. highway driving, or the other way around - the averages will be spread from one extreme to the other.

I got my E250 in January. So far 2500+ miles. I will be close to 3k at the end of the week. Being in the cold (WI). When temps drop to the teens (F) and lower which has been often mileage suffers quite a bit. At -10F it is horrible, around 30mpg, plus the engine doesn't really get to temp ever.
I will look at adding fuely app to more accurately track mpg but this last fill up with the cold snaps was just over 600miles on a tank before the low fuel warning removed the range est. I may have had a gal left - hard to tell as I pumped less than 19 gals.
Most of my driving is interstate 90% (100miles a day). Once I set the cruise for 73, such as today the on board computer was showing high 40s mpg on the consumption screen. So I am hoping once I break it in more and the temps warm up along with summer diesel I can get much higher mileage and less fuel stops!!!

I've had my 2014 E250 four months and have put 10,000 miles on it so far. Real world fuel economy has been great. We're talking actual fill-ups, not the gauges in the car. City is 32 mpg, highway 45 mpg. The interstates and most of the highways where I go have speed limits of 70-85. I have gotten over 50 mpg under ideal conditions for a couple of hundred miles straight. The mpg displays show about 2 mpg more than I really get.

A little late posting the results.
46.8 miles to a gallon. That is filling the tank to the top of filler tube and doing the same and calculating it with total disregard to what the trip computer said. Almost all of the driving was interstate. I would say in between the fill ups maybe 15-20 percent of the driving was in the city.

Very happy with the car and the fuel mileage. Very unhappy with the MBrace and overall navigation and entertainment system in the car. I can't wait until they switch to Apple iOS or Google or something else.

Impressive fuel efficiency ! Is your E250BT RWD or 4Matic ?

Your MPG is for real! My e250 has close to 3000 miles on it and I am getting 49 MPG on HWY. I can't believe it but it is giving me that! I don't race the car or drive hard, just nice and easy.

I've only got 2000 miles on my 250 4M, and I've been tracking the mileage since I got it. First off, the car's computer has consistently given results that are about 2 mpg better than I actually achieve. However, I'm averaging 36 - 37 mpg overall, with probably 60/40 highway/local driving. I did track the mileage on one 250 mile trip on I95 (70 - 75 mph) and measured it at 46 mpg.
Hoping, as some report, that it gets even better as the engine gets broken in.

Wow, impressive FE with your E2504M !!! Yes, it should get even better with more mileage on your car's engine. Diesels need about 10K to achieve full break-in.

I can second that my wife's E350 (when I drive it) can get 30mpg on the highway. My ML350 get about 23-25mpg driving around locally (I am in NY Metro Suburbs) and about 27mpg on the highway unless I go over 65 then it drops down to about 23mpg. I can't complain about that. I have to admit, I don't have the heavy foot that I did when I was younger but I know if I need to press down, both my wife's and my ML don't leave me down. When I got my ML last December, I was considering the bluetech but the reported difference was not all that great. I should have realized the MB seems to underestimate their mpg figures. Now that I am paying $2.89 for BP premium and $2.79 for Costco Premium and Diesel is still about 40 cents more a gallon, I am glad I didn't get the 6 cylinder bluetech

You got 48.5 miles per gallon on highway driving. No, you were not incorrect! That is how it is with the car. I get 50 miles per gallon on highway driving! There are more people reporting same result as mine. You will enjoy the car more, the more you drive. I have no problems driving on hills and I do not miss power of e350. 4 banger but it has torque of near V6. 850 miles on full tank? No, you were not crazy to see it.
