Also, I assume the metal piece interferes with NFC. I wonder if it would work through a thicker otterbox case.
I put in a DVD to show my daughter that she could watch a movie, but then we realized it doesn't work while driving which makes sense. But the point of that was that DVD is still in there and Koomus holder works even with a CD in the holder. It doesn't go in far enough to interfere. Not sure about NFC but I have had no problems with the metal interfering with any functions of the phone.

Love Pro-Clip where they offer something high enough and not too far out of arms reach...on the far side of the center console. I don't care for their offerings for the current E or GLC class. For the '14 E that I am driving, i opted for the "right drive" center mount of my left drive, US car as I did not want to block the Command display at all. Out of the box, I could not get all the angle that I needed so I added one of their wedges which allows me perfect viewing and brings it just a little closer.

I love this. I've been looking for a clean solution that doesn't block any vents or buttons. I will likely order once once I figure out an ideal holder to accompany it.

I have a left hand drive car, however, I would actually prefer a right hand drive model as the phone could be closer to me and my line of sight. I tried to look at UK websites but couldn't find it. Does anybody know if a right hand drive model is available or if there is something equivalent that I could use?

Also interested if there is a good way to hardwire charging so that I don't have to use the 12v next to the ashtray?

Old thread and that is an interesting solution that looks like an add-on, but for me now that I have carplay I simply stick my phone in the strap/net device in the passenger footwell. I don't need to be able to see the screen. Works like a charm.

ProClip and Ohsnap Option

Not the cheapest option but I like that I didn't need to alter anything or stick something to my dash and it looks pretty clean without obstructing views. This is an iPhone 12 Pro for reference. Here are the links:
