Air leak / wind noise
I posted this earlier, but so far do not have the fix/solution:
I have this hissing sound in the car, which at 1st I thought came
from the pano roof.
So the dealer adjusted the roof, but that didn't do the trick.
Then took 2 friends with me for a drive & had them listen as well.
As far as we can tell it comes from the windshield "area",
(Impossible to pin point the exact location)
All I know "for sure" is that it's definitely air passing through some tiny hole,
and not a loose screw or something...
it starts to be noticeable at 90km/55m, but really starts at 110km/70m
could it be that the windshield is not glued airtight to the car?
The dealer says that that can't be it, but he doesn't know what COULD
be the cause.
They've sent a message to MB, in the hope that it's a known problem,
and that MB will tell them how to fix it... But so far no news, which worries me...
If anyone has had a similar problem or if anyone has ANY thoughts on it.. let me know please!
Cheers

I finally have time to let dealer look @ this issue today; car is in shop and service adviser stated they will try TSB# LI88.20-P-058905.

thanks your input, appreciate the help.
but don't think we have the same problem.
my sound is definitely not coming from the engine,
and at best can describe it as someone who is whistling very badly & very softly
Do you know what sort of procedure the TSB number stands for?

According to TSB, LI88.20-P-058905 Apr14 – e63 wind noises area of bumper/engine hood between 45-80 mph, gap between trim and bumper greater than specified dimension remove front bumper and glue chrome frame to ensure stability.
Although my car is not e63 but dealer stated they will apply that TSB to my E350 (production date Apr/ 2014).
I got the car back but no chance to speed up due to traffic condition... will see if they fixed

Garage still waiting to hear from MB on what to do / if it's a known issue.
I continued the investigation myself & put tape around the panoroof & windshield.
Not even the slightest change....
Tried to localise the exact place where the sound is coming from,
but it's impossible to determine: it SEEMS to be coming from the windshield,
but might as well be from (behind) the dashboard...?
The only solution so far is to ALWAYS listen to the radio/music..... brilliant....

Hey. Yes I guess you are right, seems I have nothing to lose.. nor a better idea :-)
it's just that they way you describe the sound (high pitching) is not
at all how I hear it.
plus it's really a sound from INSIDE the car.
Then again wind has a funny way of traveling.
will call tomorrow & give them the case nr
thanks

I believe we are talking about the same "noise" with different wording.
Originally, I thought the "noise" was from panoramic roof, air vent, outside mirror, door trim, rubber seal, evaporator, windshield, wipers ...... until I asked dealer to look at that TSB and following the instruction, the "noise" was fixed with several hours.
Anyhow, it is my experience, just share with you.

and I appreciate it very much!
If this does the trick i'll owe you a beer or 6!
also found another similar issue just now which will also mention to the dealer:
LI88.20-P-056908 aug 2013 - wind noises at windshield between approx 90 & 120 km/h

You were right sigx5!
dealer called me to advice this is probably what causes the sound.
I then put some tape on the grill & indeed sound is gone.
going back soon to have it fixed.
(the "case no" is different then the ones above, but will post once I have it)
Thanks for all the help guys.
