Pre-Safe functions limited
Hi, I just bought a W212 2011 E350 CDI 4 matic from a dealer. Car has around 104.000 km. I was happy driving it around for like 10 days. Then one day i got the Message Pre-Safe functions limited, followed by the Lane Assistant, Blind Spot Assistant and Distronic Plus shutting Down. It was raining/snowing at the time, but the snow didn't stick to the car. After work when i started the car, it was normal again. The next day i was driving on the highway, when all of a sudden it was like the car was in neutral, and i had to make an emergency stop. No messages on the display. This was a potentially dangerous situation. I turned the engine off and back on, now i could drive, but the yellow check engine light was on, halfway home same thing happened again, lost all momentum and it was like having the car in neutral when it actually was in drive. Took a litte longer to get the car to act when i put it in drive, but finally got home with reduced power. I called the dealer, and they sent a towtruck to carry it to their shop. That was last Friday afternoon.
I also had a couple of other odd incidents on the same day. I had been in the grocerystore for like 10 minutes, when i came back my alarm was screaming. The other thing was the alarm on the Dashboard (parktronic system?) by the windscreen, it was beeping and lit up everytime a car or lightpole was like 2 or 3 meters away, not normal at all. It stopped after a few minutes. I havent heard from the dealer yet, gonna call them this afternoon to see whats going on with the car. I have googled this, and seems im not the only one to experience this, on many types of MB's. However, i have yet to see someone come up with a spesific cause of it, specially the main problem with the car not running in drive modus. Is it related to the Pre-Safe system?
Anyone else who has experienced something similar to this, and possibly can enlighten me. My worst fear is that the dealer just says that they cannot find any faults, and just return the car, because this is potentionally very dangerous. (Driving by other cars and trucks and suddenly loose all power)
Greeting from Norway.

2013 e350
I have a 2013 E350, 4matic and last week the ESP inoperable light came on, the it went into
the 20mph limit mode. pulled over turned off the engine, restarted the car and all was ok.
an hour later the check engine light came on.. took to the dealer and they found the wiring harness was defective. they replaced it and all is good.

There is a tsb on corroded wiring harnesses ... My 2014 e550 was repaired for this problem as well

I read through the TSB's on the E350, but i couldn't find one that matched my problem specifically. However, faulty wires could certainly be the cause of this since i had a lot of problems happening at the same time/same day.
The dealer has offered me a rental car for free for a few days, so i guess this could take most of this week.

You should mention the wore harness campaign to your dealer so at least they will check on it.

Yes, i have done that, i am very anxious to hear what they find out.
This is an interesting article:
http://www.ebay.com/gds/Mercedes-Def...8277768/g.html
A little cut and paste from the article above:
Mercedes cars suddenly die in the middle of traffic, on Freeways, busy intersections and have spontaneously combusted in driveways. What good will your airbags be if a semi-truck traveling at 65mph+ on the Freeway plows into your stalled car, or your family is trapped in a burning car with failed door locks? This is a very serious life-threatening defect.
Exactly what happened to me, full stop on the highway, this time i lived to tell about it.

My dealer did the harness job without me asking for it. I have not had any issues.

Hi, my first time in here, not sure if the message is placed correctly, but i will try.
Have you got your car back ? I have some of the same failure messages on my W212 now, but have not lost engine power yet. Only the Pre safe functions, and the blind spot assistant. The blind spot ***. is the only thing the dealer has looked at, and confirmed broken. Price for each blind spot radar is NOK 11.000,-, and there are two of them. Work is additional. Now i am also worried of the pre safe funtions ( distronic etc)

I thought that the issues with biodegradable harnesses was related to <1996 production? Are later TSB's for wiring related to chafing or similar issues rather than early degradation of the insulation?

Same issue
I been having the same issue with my 2014 E350. I finally took to the dealer. Had to replace the right front emergency tensioning retractor. Got my car back and not even a full 24 hours. It came back on. Currently back at the dealer. Smh.

I don’t mean to insult with the above if that is what the word “Norske” means….
I don’t know what year your car is. I have a 2010 E550 and I lost the functions of the Distronic, Blind Spot and Lane Keep Assist. Problem was the Auxilliary battery that had to be replaced. I did not get any battery warnings before this happened.
In my car the AUX battery is located in the end of the dashboard on driver’s side. It is about the size of a box of cigarettes and cost me $65 from the dealer.
I understand the AUX battery keeps power to these “gizmos” in the car during engine start as that pulls a huge amount of power from the main battery and could cause issues with them.

TSB
Apparently there is a known issue with pedal wiring harness having a loose female side, not the sensor itself - That is what the TSB says... but based on DTC this problem could be something else too (CAN disruption of CGW, ...)
The ECU logs the pedal fault while the other module complain about it being off the chart.
lookee
+++++
if you scratch around some more on this topic you'll find the connector at engine throttle body put in question for the same reasons.... not saying it's the ECU harness or circuit board itself that host the troublesome pins...
🤣
