2014 E350 headrest removal question

Hello does anyone know how to get the head rest off this car. I read that you need to remove the back by removing to the screws at the bottom of the back On my car there are no screws. I am trying to put sheepskins on the seat. Thanks Brian

I am afraid that is not a simple as getting screws off! You'll probably have to take off back of the seat cover and get to the motor inside. Dealers will charge you about 150 to $200 for the job. That is my understanding. Check it out.

Yes I know it's a hard job. I know what to do when I get in there. But I cannot figure out how to get the back of the seat cover off. In the past there were 2 screws on the bottom of the panel. But now they are not there that I can find. I think it might now snap out from the top and sliding it up.but I hate to do that without knowing for sure.

Pull seat-back lining at the bottom far enough out to enable a screwdriver to lift the catch hooks see here http://workshop-manuals.com/mercedes...t-back_lining/

The newer model Mercedes have a feature making headrest removal nearly impossible, so sheepskin is not used.

Photos of my head rest removal

Actually this was a very easy job to do. Please follow along with the pictures and you should have no problem at all.

Pull the bottom edge of the panel out about a half an inch and stick a screwdriver or better yet use a plastic panel tool to push up and release the clamp then do the other side. After both clips are released you gently pull the panel downward.

E

This is the back of the seat with the panel removed.

The circle area is where the head rest pole snapped into the power motor bracket.

With a gentle pull the head rest pole will unsnap, now do the other side now.

Now you must unplug the power cord to the head rest.

This is the head rest power cord un-snapped.
.

This is at the top of the seat. This is the plastic channel that the head rest pole goes down through the top of the seat. If you look very carefully you'll see a little clip that fits into the head rest pole to keep from pulling all the way out. You can see the notch circled on the next picture. Next use a small screwdriver and lift the clip out of the pole notch and the whole headrest will now come out. Note only only one pole has this. See next picture.

Here is the little notch that the previous pictures clip goes into.

And there is the head rest is easily removed. Reassembled by reversing this order. It was a very easy and simple job took about 10 minutes or less.

Nice write up. Any pictures with the sheepskin? I was suprised to see power going to the headrest - is it heated?

The vertical headrest adjustment is done by the motor under the headrest in the seatback while the power going thru the rod and into the actual headrest is for something else?

This would be funny if it happened to someone else. After I received the custom-made sheepskins, I just opened the box and looked at the wool and color. I never took them out of the box until after I had taken the seat back off. This company sewed in a large velcro enclosure that goes over the head rest makeing removal of them unnecessary.

Hope you had the side cut outs for the airbag in your sheepskins. Otherwise, you could be in for a world of hurt if they blocked them.
