I have it on my car...which is currently in production. Hoping to take delivery sometime in December. I'll definitely post a review then.
Take a look at the options available for this car:
063 – Metallic Paint $720
2xx – Leather Upholstery $1,620
314 - Wood/Leather Steering Wheel $590
401 – Heated & Active Ventilated Front Seats $450
413 – Power Tilt/Sliding Panorama Sunroof $1,090 $1,090 $1,090
432 – Active Multicontour Driver Seat $660
443 – Heated Steering Wheel $250
770 – 19" AMG Twin 7-spoke Forged Alloy Wheel $1,790
864 – Rear Seat Entertainment System $1,950
8xx – Premium Leather Upgrade $1,370
872 – Heated Rear Seats SPC $625
811 – Bang & Olufsen Sound System $5,400
881 - Electronic Trunk Closer $560
B07 – AMG Carbon Ceramic Braking System $12,625
H73 – Carbon Fiber Trim $2,850
U80 – 115V A/C Power Outlet $115
067 – Illuminated Door Sills $800
068 – Wheel Locks $140
070 – Chrome Door Handle Inserts $90
104 – Rear Trunklid Spoiler $350
120 – AMG Illuminated Door Sills $850
129 – Rear Spoiler Kit (Trunklid & Roof) $600
137 – Comfort Box $290
Then look at the cost of the Acoustic Glass - $300. Seems like the bargain of a century in terms of options. $800 for illuminated door sills? Really? a piece of aluminum and some LEDs for $800. $560 for a trunk closer? For $560, I could hire one of the men standing around Home Depot looking for work to do this, permanently. $450 to put weak-*** fans in a seat? $600 for a wood steering wheel? Are you kidding me?
At least that's the way I saw it when I was spec'ing mine out. It was a no-brainer option. You could spend a lot more and get a lot less.

It's a Mercedes
Why even look to buy if these option prices are out of whack? What did you expect?

the two 911's I owned and drove were used: but I have spent some time on the site configuring lots of cars......it's daunting.......then you select the next set of options
and talk about things that 'should be included anyway'.....(kind of like a P1 in a S class)
Porsche gets you for everything: and offers you everything too

Nokia; I love that "when money is no object, load it up". Really I love the idea of the glass and think for $300+250 special fee its truly the bargain in the option price guide. I wondered if any one had real world experience with the glass and how well it worked.
dbldpr; I agree that the $800 for the illuminated sills is over kill, I could pull the sill and install the panel myself and I'm sure the wiring is under the sill. thanks bob

Only downside is if you get submerged in water it would be very difficult if not impossible to get out through the laminated side window glass. Also adds a bit of weight.

Glass has terrific acoustic qualities because it's glass. I would like to see numbers comparing this laminated glass to the normal tempered glass to prove it has any increase in sound reflection. It has to be very minimal and more than likely close to unmeasurable. I would not want laminated windows anywhere, but the windshield in any of my cars.

A few things to point out:
1) This is laminated acoustical glass, NOT laminated safety glass like the windshield. In this case there are two glass sheets with a layer of insulating plastic in-between. It'll still act like regular tempered glass if broken. It's the same glass they've been putting in the S-Class for awhile. I'm not sure if the W222 has it, but prior versions did.
2) Mercedes says this option will reduce interior noise "by up to ten decibels." Keep in mind that decibels are logarithmic units, thus 10dB is a ten-fold difference. Practically speaking, most people hear a 10dB difference and think the sound is half (or double) as loud*. And that's why I spent my $300 on it.
When my E comes in, I'll see if I can do an instrumented test of the difference between a regular E350 and my E350 w/acoustical glass. Then we'll have definitive results.
*Yes, I'm fully aware that 6dB is a true doubling/halving of sound power technically, but 10dB is where several psychological/biomedical studies have put people's perception of half/double the loudness.

Added the 839 Laminated Acoustic Glass SPC option to the E400 sedan.
From a very short ride home - I could definitely notice a reduction in cabin noise from exterior sources relative to standard side window glass. Might try a side-by-side test later to compare it with the cars around home without it (maybe an interior acoustic level with a noise source directly outside a side window).
Will be interesting to see if the reduction is near 10 dB (which is considerable). At first glance, the difference in glass thickness seems negligible - will put a set of calipers on it as well.

With the window partly down, does it have the bulletproof look like a W140?
Definitely a bargain, no-brainer if I was custom ordering a car. $300 on a 60K++ car, come on.

I have a hard enough time hearing emergency vehicles as it is. How much of a cocoon do we need to be in to enjoy our ride?

I think $500 is peanuts for the cost of more quiet
Problem is that all my benzs have rattled and a more sound insulated e class interior means I can hear more rattles on the interior
Also if you always have the music on, you probably don't need the acoustic glass as I doubt you'll hear that difference as well

Most of the cars that I see on the dealer lots come with the accessory comfort box. I'd much rather have the acoustic glass than the pull down storage.
I have the keyless go package that includes the trunk open/closing feature. I believe the entire package for keyless entry and trunk feature is 900. The price you are looking at is for the remote trunk closing option alone, which doesn't make sense to buy without keyless entry and ignition bundled together.

Anyone care to share their experience on a 2016 E, preferably an E63 Wagon? Also, what is meant by "ACOUSTIC LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS DRIVER + REAR DOOR" - is that just the drivers roll down window plus the rear wagon door glass?
Thanks in advance -

Mercedes Benz e450 Wagon / Porsche 911 Cabriolet
I have the acoustic laminated glass on my 15 wagon. It does a very good job compared to stock (tested at dealer) blocking outside sounds. I can still hear sirens and horns, but they are much less annoying. Now, I should mentioned that my old Porsche Cayenne Turbo had full on thermal and noise insulated glass. It was a different application then MB uses. Whereas the MB window still looks like a normal window, the Porsche effort is noticeably thicker...like 2 windows stuck together. It was VERY quiet.
For my part, I'm a big fan of deadening road and exterior noise, especially on long trips.
I highly recommend the option, particularly given that it's one of the cheaper options.

I've got it and like it. Basically the four windows that roll down on the doors are two thin pieces of glass glued together (laminated). For only $300, why not try it out?
