2011 E350 engine knocking revisited?
I am a new owner of a used 2011 Mercedes E350 4M with 36,000 miles. I got a great deal on the car and couldn't pass it up. After purchase I did a little research and found that my wood trim was severely faded. Scheduled an appt. with my local deal for the warranty work to replace the wood. After some back and forth we came to the agreement that all the wood in the car needs to be replaced (just waiting on parts now). Fast forward to a couple days later and Im going through the drive through for fast food and I hear the engine knocking while in line. I get home and pop the hood and listen to the motor. It is a solid knocking noise that sounds like a constant drum with metal on metal. Ive read it might be the pins in the piston rods? or the cam and lifters? Any help with this would be great, id like a little knowledge about what it might be before I bring it to the dealer when they replace the wood and let them listen to the knocking. I appreciate any help that anyone can give.
Thanks!

They need to inspect cylinder walls if the noise is related to cylinder wall scoring engine must be replaced https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post4877952 check your PM.

Yes that is the exact sound it is making. It's not as loud as that currently but I can assume it will just get worse. Thanks to konigstiger graciously provided the datacard for my car and the service bulletin so I can show my SA that my motor number is within the range of faulty engines. Did you get yours changed? I'd like to know about what I'm in for. Should I be satisfied with a new motor? How does that affect the value of the car? I just don't know what to expect my my dealer either as they are replacing my wood trim on tuesday and I just told them when we scheduled the appt that they need to check out the knocking in the motor. Things falling apart already with 36k miles lol.
Thanks!!

2019 - S560 4Matic (designo Cashmere White Magno (matte finish) & 2013 - S550 4Matic (Andorite Grey)
MB tech rep came to dealer with me present and said it was normal and they couldn't do anything. Had a few other annoyances with the vehicle and within 3 mos MB and the dealer ended up replacing the vehicle for me with a new 2012. Luck of the Angels on that one and can't say anything bad about MB as they did a straight up replacement. Hell, my payment even went down. Have since upgraded to S550. My advice is to work with them, don't battle but be persistent and have your supporting information. Konigstiger is amazing and was extremely helpful to me in a number of the issues I had.

Interesting info, my engine number is 272977, no noise yet. I think that based on the bulletin it may be included within the problem range. Car is at 35K+ miles, I saved that bulletin. thanks for posting about this.
