#&*% knife in tire
So I guess I was due for a tire problem since it was a little over a year since my last one. This time it was a knife blade, not a nail. Yes, really a pocket knife blade that was snapped in half.
After picking up a coworker on the way to a work event, we both heard a clicking sound as I pulled onto the main road. Within moments of that, I got the red display showing low pressure in the passenger rear tire. And it was going down fast - 28, 26, 24, 22... I pulled onto a side street as fast I could to inspect and saw a small metal piece sticking out of the tire and you could easily hear the hiss of escaping air. Luckily, we were within a mile of her house and I was able to limp back before it went flat. By the time I got there the pressure was down to 11. Left my car there so we could take hers to the event. Unlike last time, I had no issue with using the jack - no slipping on asphalt like on my finished garage floor.
Actually the ride with the spare for a few miles to the tire shop was pretty smooth. Tire display showed all three intact tires with a blank for the spare. The yellow warning light flashed.
Very easy install too with the alignment bolt. Thankfully the puncture could be repaired and I am rolling along again.

On a runflat tire, a puncture like that would have not been repairable, so although he could have driven to the shop on the tire without using the spare, the fix would have been a new $300 tire.

funny thing is I have two roadside assistance services and didn't think about it until after I changed the tire. One through insurance with State Farm and another through Michelin from the tire purchase. Wife also has AAA so that's a third service. Had I not been on suitable surface for the jack or on a busy road, I probably would paused and thought if I could get help with this.

Whenever I have set something in the spare well that sits taller than the spare, the trunk floor never sits flush. So I assumed it was too shallow for anything taller than the spare itself.

I always purchase road hazard with new tires and with that comes free flat repairs and rebalancing. Its paid for itself several times.

Same here. Got my set at the wholesale club and they include that in the install fee. So the flat repair was free. If it didn't hold they would replace tire for free since I am within 9 months of purchase.

though it wouldnt take 10 minutes to change to a spare tyre, nothing more annoying than having to do it in the middle of a busy day. just be glad it didnt cause any more trouble than it already did.

I waited till the morning after going to the gym to go by and change the tire. With the summer humidity down here, you've got to be ready to sweat. Had I been dressed for work, I would probably have called someone.
