2010 E350 Luxury Sedan, Engine 272 (V6)
V6 probably better for you
As you may have noted, many here are big fans of diesels or high power V8's.

If looking at Lexus ES, check out Toyota Camry XLE V6 and Avalons. They share platforms and lots of equipment with Lexus ES - for a lot less money.
However, the comfort level is not what it used to be from all the reviews I have read. You also have to get past that huge hole in the front they call a grille.

Considering that the OP wants a premium car rather than the regular mile munchers, the E class diesel (as mentioned before) would be ideal (we are partial to MBs anyway). But good comparison should also be made for Audi A4/A6 diesels or BMW diesels as well. If looking outside of premium cars you'll have plenty of options.
Are you considering any SUVs at all?

I agree that for practicality the V6 is a better choice. However, the Hyundai Genesis R-Spec with 5.0 425hp V8 is fun and gives reasonable mpg for a big V8 sedan. Plus the R-spec comes standard with a lot of luxury goodies like heated rear seats, smart cruise, auto leveling lights etc.

Live with it? With the 7 and 9 (?) speed transmissions and especially the DI engine the E350 is plenty peppy. You'll be surprised at the performance they offer. The V8 obviously is much stronger but the V6 is no slouch. Drive one first then ask questions as it may not suite you at all. Japanese cars are more reliable and cost less to fix (can't sugar coat that fact) but there are many trouble free E350s out there.
