Brake Rant!
I have a new to me 2013 E350 4matic sport package purchased about 2 months ago with 20K on the clock. About a month into ownership the check brake pad light came on. Really...at 20K miles! Lo and behold I check out threads here and learn the OEM brakes or rotors are not long lived.
Decided on Zimmerman rotors and centric posiquiet pads. A little confusing as they have different pads for sport and non-sport. More confusing as different sites list different Centric part numbers for my car. Tire rack shows part number 105-13420 but auto brake center shows 105-14200. Centric site confirms 105-14200 so I go with that.
Flash forward to this morning. Grab my coffee and head out to the garage. Pop off the caliper and pull out the pads. Darn, probably a good 30% of the pad is left. What the heck I'm going to change out anyway. Get the rotor off and check the new 344mm rotor - perfect match. Put on the new rotor, reinstall the caliper bracket, compress the cylinder back in, grab the new pads and, wait a minute. These are the wrong pads! Go back in the house, check my receipt, go back online and everything checks out. Ordered everything correctly per the manufacturer's website. Pulled up actual pictures of the pads and the ones that match my existing pads are listed for non sport models.
Now I have to pay to have the incorrect pads shipped back and pay for shipping of the new pads. They claim they shipped what I ordered and they go by the manufacturers catalog and part listing. They probably think they are talking to some idiot who doesn't know what model car he has but I even checked the vin to make sure I knew all the options. Anyway. slapped the old brakes back on to get the last 5 or 10K miles out of them and will wait for my new parts to arrive.
Anyone else come across this problem? I can't believe I'm the only guy who that has had this happen. I have found at least 2 or 3 websites listing the correct part number and the same amount listing the incorrect part.

I always check what I need first and if possible buy it local. So in 45 years of working on my cars I have not had this happen. However, I did purchase a new ignition coil for a 70 Mercury and the new coil was bad out of the box which ran me crazy since the coil was new and after two days of trying to start the car, I tested the new coil.

Still working on the stock brakes and rotors on a 2010 with sport package. Just cracked 47k on the clock. I have zero brake dust and no issues with the brakes. I can't imagine what is causing your problems. Perhaps previous owner's driving style?? Or defective pads and/or rotors? For me, the stock system is working fine. When it comes time to replace pads and rotors, I will go with OEM.

2014 E550-sold 😩
I hope you get an answer to your query. Sounds like the original owner may have driven this car hard.

Thanks. I'll be ordering parts from one of their competitors this week.
