Sounds very nice!
I did a simple straight pipe replace of the single resonator (kept stock mufflers intact) and it sounds way better when stepping on it, yet maintains the near stock sound at idle and relaxed driving (M278 on E550 Coupe):

Even more aggressive sound after my Stage 1 ECU tune by OE Tuning.

Please keep in mind, that the Coupe and the Convertible do have an totally different exhaust setup with way more agressive rear resonators...:
E550 C207 / A207
A 207 490 24 21 (right)
vs. the E550 4matic W212
A 212 490 61 59 (left 2012-2013)
A 218 490 47 21 (left 2014-2016)
Therefore the results are not comparable. You may only compare
C207 vs. C207 or
W212 (2012 / 2013) vs. W212 (2012 / 2013) or
W212 (2014+) vs. W212 (2014+)

So I stopped by the exhaust shop today. On my 2012 E550 sedan, there are 2 central resonators that mix the exhaust banks. The forward one appears to be a mostly empty can with 2 inputs and 2 outputs. Shortly behind that is the longer and more flat resonator that is part of the rear exhaust section. This one would appear more restrictive, and is what most others seem to be removing, also 2 inputs and 2 outputs.
I'm going to have them remove the second resonator, and I don't see any reason for X or H pipe because the banks already mix in the first resonator. I'll try to get before and after pics, as well as final sound clip posted.

I look forward to hearing about your results!

I removed both. Removing just the rear one will yield a very minimal sound difference if any. Like I said earlier in this thread, I just went thru this with my car which is the same as yours. the stock mufflers are very very quiet. I removed both and replaced with straight pipe and there is barely any noticeable difference from inside the car unless under WOT.

So I'm confused. Juice - did you remove the far rear mufflers for straight pipes too? The muffler guy said he looked at the other forward resonator, and it's basically straight through as well, and probably won't change anything either. He did mention that someone with some MB came in and removed the rear mufflers completely for straight pipes to the tips and he somewhat remembered it sounding good.
I think my next step will be to either look for a used E63 rear section with mufflers, or get some after-market flowmaster or similar mufflers fitted in place of the stock ones. I'd rather not cut up the front portion of exhaust too if it's not going to change anything.

Perhaps a set of downpipes? Catted wouldn't throw a CEL, but catless would perform better (I'd rather spend that cat money on a tune to get rid of the CEL, but I'm too chicken to flush my warranty ATM.) Sometimes a bung extender can work with catless and no tune.

I thought someone got a set of C63 mufflers on their E63 to increase sound (on the 6.3L platform, but if it fits the 6.3l w212 I suspect i might fit ours as well), but I can't find that reference. I can't find E63 mufflers either.

Of course fitting AMG mufflers means you'll need an new diffuser or modification to either fit quad pipes or stock tips.
Maybe have your exhaust guy disconnect your mufflers and see what it sounds like it's cheap and easy. If it works...
Good luck!

I don't want to screw with the downpipes or tuning.
The E63 rear section mated to stock front section as posted here would probably be ideal. I'll just have to dig and wait for one to come up at a reasonable price. I don't know if I would spend a grand or more just to have the sound though.

Funny thing is that the 2012 CLS550 I test drove had just the right sound, and from what I can tell the main difference is just the end mufflers. Maybe I could look for a way to chop out some used CLS550 mufflers or rear section and make it fit to this car. Probably much cheaper and more available than the E63 exhaust.

I'm interested in getting some more sound from my E550 and enjoyed J.M.G's videos! I am wondering about X-pipe too but not sure whether it will add enough sound.
If I try to go for a cat-back system, I'm wondering which is louder: E63 or Eisenmann sport? I am in the UK though, so have limited choices about exhaust modifications compared to the US and Germany...

Hard to believe there are stock mufflers on that CLS550 clip. I did notice on a test drive that the CLS exhaust of the same year had a more noticeable sound than the E550. I considered trying to swap those stock muffler boxes to my E, but got used to the silent fury.
