Warranty Info

Attached is the CPO Extended Warranty which covers just about everything the original warranty covered. I paid $2495 for it and it's active May 15, 2015 through May 14, 2017. Technically I could get $1800 back for it from the dealer since I can return it pro-rated, but I feel it's a big selling point for the buyer.

I removed page 1 since it has personal information and the last page since it's the transfer form. Page 1 has dates and states it goes until 135,00 miles or may 2017, whichever comes sooner.

I agree with @Air. Very good condition from the looks of it and I see it has massage seats as well which I don't have . Good luck with the sale #BUMP for the E550

Thanks for the complement and the bump!

That massaging seat is great at all times, but especially useful when you're in traffic. It makes traffic a little less stressful!

Also I've always taken great care of the car, hopefully the next owner enjoys it as much as I do.

New price - $26,500! My new car is arriving in a few weeks, make me an offer to get this one before the next one comes in!

65k service just done, tires are close to new, brakes just done. This is a big savings for teh next buyer.

Make me an offer!

Albert - perhaps you should check the "private party" pricing for your car on Edmunds or KBB. Maybe that is why your car hasn't sold.

While the extended warranty is a plus for the next owner, it may not be worth the current premium.

Oh, and your car does not have an "Electrochromatic Automatic Transmission"

Hi CEB,

I appreciate the feedback. The KBB value for this vehicle for Prviate Party is $28,158. I'm not sure if you're seeing a different value, but here is the screenshot. I have it posted at 2k below book value and I'm throwing in the warranty. Even at GOOD condition the value is $27,233 and this car is in very good condition.

This car is fully loaded with pano roof, P2 Package, Navigation, Dynamic/Massaging seats, AMG sports kit, leather, heated and cooled seats, keyless go and many other options. I have received offers, but they have been extremely low numbers.

I have flexibility which is why I listed OBO. That said the car has been on the market for only 2 weeks and the price is below market value, therefore I feel it's a fair deal.

You may have to just cut your loss and let it go for far less than you want to move it out. I see this time and time again where a seller describes all offers as "low *****" and the car never sells. No one is going to come along and pay your price whether you thinking it is fair or not. Dealers have it over private sales because they offer financing. It is a really nice car, that looks well maintained but the miles are up there. Not a lot of buyers who will write a check for this type of used car and unfortunately this is a fact.

Here's my 2 cents:

It's a nice looking car, but I just bought a 2012 with similar miles for $25K. No damage history, dealer service history every 10K, extremely clean condition. It doesn't have warranty (don't care) or all the premium options, but the updated Biturbo engine was the most important point for me, which 2010 does not have. Also, I would pay a premium NOT to have the Airmatic on a used one. I nearly bought a car identical to yours with all the same premium options, but only 44K miles for $25K.

Another detractor on this one for me would be that you live in a northern climate with salted roads where it has been driven for 5-6 winters. Being from FL, I can instantly tell a local car from a northern car by looking at the suspension, brakes, and other parts under it. Tons of rusty bolts, etc. That becomes a problem down the line for servicing, even if there is no rust on the actual body.

Threads like this make me feel so sad about my car as it also is a 2010 E550 but with 98700 miles on it meaning it has no resell value. But that is why I got the one with Distronic so I have all I need for a car and will drive it until it cannot be fixed anymore.

As it should be. I drive mine to the point of not caring what it's value is. Then you know you got your monies worth and can give it away with no remorse.

Don't want to read it, move on! It's applicable info to the thread.

I wish all the best in getting a good price for your car. I'm also curious what the dealer offered as trade-in, since you say you already ordered a new one. It must be significantly lower than what you're asking. In my state, you also get the tax benefits of trade, you only pay tax on the difference, so if sales tax is 6.5% and the dealer offers $24000 in trade, it's really like getting $1560 more due to saving tax on that $24K.

Don't feel bad check the last year that an E550 was ranked the highest luxury car in it's class. That would be your vehicle good Sir. These newer versions just aren't elite anymore but that's just my opinion.

Actually 2012 and 2013 were also top rated in their class. Some of the other years like 2011 and 2014 had huge drop offs. I believe 2011 fell all the way to #8.

The model before the face lift looks far better and I'm lucky to have one with the big engine on it.

The new E-class coming up (in 2017?) will most probably look like mid size car between the new S and C. It seems MB is going to the same as BMW - from the distance you can't tell if it is a 3, 5 or 7. This is already with MB C and S. E-class will fit just fine in between.

How stupid...

The problem with pricing used cars is that the owner thinks his car is in great condition and is worth top dollar while the buyer wants a car in great condition for the price of a car in poor condition.

Let's do a reality check. Assuming the car is in great (i.e. above average) condition, then the dealer will offer you KBB "fair" condition trade in. That is about what the dealer can get at auction. Anything you can get over that is what the car is worth. Realistically, I think you are looking at the low 20's. The extended warranty is worth a premium but the amount of that premium is anybody's guess.

Go to CARMAX (or your local equivalent) and see what they offer you. That'll give you another number to compare.

KBB is worthless, therefore @OP you have not priced your car below market value.

KBB says the car is worth 23600 +/- fair condition to 26500 Excellent condition trade in, no dealer who wants to stay in business will pay that much.

Car was priced 4000 grand more than what it was worth private party to begin with.

Small sample size but with those miles it is worth low low low 20s at auction, the OP isn't offering any credit facilities and it isn't a craigslist cash car so the market for this car, Cash buyer is a very small niche market.

I agree carmax is the way to go to know what the local market is for the car

Do you know why the 2011 dropped so far? My fairly uneducated understanding was that 2010 and 2011 were almost the same car. Was it just the fact that other manufacturers came out with new models that year?

Agree that selling a car in the over $20k price range privately is very difficult. These are somewhat rare though.

KBB has always been a joke, most dealers sell below KBB. You have to ask if they can sell below KBB, is KBB really an accurate price? I prefer Nadaguide myself. I think most dealers tend to just offer rough trade in and they tend to sell between clean trade and retail, sometimes pretty close to clean trade in. Clean trade in is a tad under $24k. The ones that seem to price close to retail are those buy here pay here bad credit places. Those buyers have to pay closer to retail. People with good credit or cash aren't paying retail. Nadaguide retail is $26,400. Also black is a very common color and tends to command a lower price than other colors. I would actually be in the market for this car but I don't like black so it's out for me. I believe you can also get some money back on the warranty if you haven't used it, you'd have to check with MB to see how much of a pro-rated amount you can get back. It's probably easier to sell with the warranty than without though. And yes MA tax is 6.25% and if you trade it in for the new car, you'd only pay the difference so if you got 20k from the dealer, it's really worth $21250. I have seen some cars priced between rough trade in and average trade in and even those aren't moving.

Oh and I like that bit about how you consider its a fair price. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay, so far you've considered all your offers below market or low, but when you get several offers, that is the market. Reminds me of that Benny Hill bit where he has a sign that says "Popular Prices" and one guy says to him he thinks it's high, but then Benny Hill says, "But I like it". What you consider a fair price and what the market considers a fair price are two different things. I'm in sales so the standard lines apply. The seller determines the sale price, but the buyers determine the market price. Price it too high and there's no sale.
