Steering heavy at times, worse in reverse

When reversing and quickly turning to either steering lock... It fights me... Ultimately it gets to the lock. Any suspension mode and cold or warm engine. Been getting worse, steering fluid was fine per advisor last time checked a few months ago. In drive I rarely get this

Any ideas? Thx

I felt that the steering end range of my car has always been kind of "tight and spongy", if that's what you mean. I thought it was a feature of the car.

Yup...: but now it's to the point of the wheel fighting me unless I really use two hands ... Thanks for chiming in

How are your tire pressures? An underinflated tire will cause added resistance. Have you changed the tire or rim size? Any suspension component changes? Any tire, rim or suspension changes could be causing the binding.

Sounds like an issue with the electronic assist (it has one right?). I find mine light and breezy. I can turn the wheel at idle speeds with one finger to lock. It's supposed to get tighter at higher speeds.

My steering is crazy light at 10mph and below.
Above that, it's heavier (but never "sport" heavy).

Dealer said "normal operation" which is garbage because it doesn't always do this .. It's intermittent and they are chalking it up to "the wide and aggressive stance"

My 2010 e350 steers really easy. Not super easy, but easy enough. I would guess you have a pump problem or rack problem.

42psi? Isnt that a lil too high? I think it should be like 32 front and 34-35 rear cold...

It's the recommended tire pressure for this car and the tires that come with it

Hey i have the same issue. Its not consistent, but I do notice when i reverse into my driveway it seems like excessive force is required to turn the wheel. It turns fine when driving normally. Only at low speeds and especially in reverse. 2 people who drove it recently said the same thing, mechanic checked it twice and said its fine as german cars are kind of heavier on the wheel - which i agree, but not to this extent. The other day i was forced to use both hands to parallel park which was nuts. Today its reversing fine. Check the steering fluid - fine, tire psi - one was a tad bit low but fine. Any advice? Thanks!

10 e550 coupe see attached Recall Campaign that may be applicable. In addition, visually inspect seals @ steering gear for possible sign of leakage or deterioration, repair kits available.

Thanks for your response. This sounds like my exact issue - however - I reached out to my local dealer (Canada) and this recall does not apply to my VIN (Canadian vehicle) so they wont check it out as a recall service. Response from a merc tech:

"check the speed sensitive power steering valve but I think it would give you an esp error message. If it's making a noise from the pump check the level if you watch it while the car is running and it keeps sloshing around in the reservoir the filter in the reservoir is torn and need to replace the reservoir. If that all checks out it needs a pump. Hope this helps."

Check pump manufacturer if "ZF Lenksysteme" see if MB Canada will approve goodwill inspection/repair, supply a copy of Recall bulletin and photo of manufacturer. If not have independent check it suggesting they follow recall procedure.
