E550 Airmatic Problems
I have been having some issues lately with my 2010 E550's airnatic system. Overnight the car will fall to the passenger side. The passenger front tire looks to be bottomed out and the passenger rear about 3/4 of the way dropped. It takes the car about 2-3 minutes to lift that front right side up before I can drive. Afternoon it has filled the car will have no issues throughout the day of driving. Would it be wise to assume that the passenger front air strut has failed?

Most likely that is the case, but I would not throw a strut at it until you get it scanned with STAR (Mercedes proprietary computer). Dealerships or good indy mechanics will have one (call around). There are valve blocks, air lines/fittings, etc that could also be the culprit and are a lot cheaper. You'd be $$$ ahead to ensure/identify the problem with absolution before shelling out the cash for a replacement. Where are you located? A lot of members on here have STAR computers or can point you in a direction locally that would be happy to help you out and scan your car for a very low fee, beer, or free....

You're going to want to get that checked out soon. The airmatic pump is working constantly to keep your car up when it's running and that could break too.

Well if its front and rear , most likely you have a leak in the system , never seen any one with both front and rear struts going bad at the same time.
First thing is to get it scanned obd2 (prolly not gonna work) or STAR computer (best way) if you get an access to it.
But dont wait too long , act as soon as possible to prevent or be aware wat is going on. Cuz im sure you dont wanna have your shock going bad on the freeway or basicly anywhere.
Post here whats up and then we will go from there.
P.s. had 2 front struts replaced one was covered under warranty and 2 had to pay from my pocket. So yea.. just keep us posted.

I travel a lot for work and the car is currently in Cleveland OH. I would prefer not to take it to the dealer for obvious $ reasons. It's very odd that the passenger side is letting out air like it is. What would you be able to check with a STAR computer? if no one here can help me in the area I'm going to try to find a reputable European auto shop

do you hear any TSSSSSSSSS(air leaking sound like) sound from the front or rear of the car after you drove it? if you havent done that try to pay attention next time you get a chance. its gonna be coming out somewhere... also check under the hood and trunk where compressor is.

the STAR might help you pull any codes/faults on why is it doing so.

After driving the car auto levels soma short burst of air is common. The exessive overnight leaking is the issue.
To the original poster, the Mercedes computer will identify which suspension component is likely the issues. You can also actuate the suspension and it helps to identify where an air leak is (there is a test procedure)

Star would be able to tell you exactly where and what the problem is right?(i always thought they aren't too specific/detailed , but provide just enough info) This is where i never had a chance to play with.. i wish they were cheaper , would be nice to own one.

I made an appointment next Tuesday for the car to be evaluated by what seems to be a reputable German auto shop in town. If the passenger side air struts are both gone and no valve issues then I will most likely ship the car back to my house in Florida and replace them on my own when I have the time. I was looking at replacements and searched the forum some and Arnott does rebuilds on the fronts for around $500. Has anyone used them before?

Reiter,
How many miles do you have? Mine lasted around 95k miles. Arnott didn't have a part for the W212 but RMI did provide a refurb service where you send yours in and get them back approx. 10 days later. My passenger side front began to droop. I'm in Houston so time waiting for parts in mail was an issue so figured best to replace both at the same time, also RMI, like Arnott, provide a lifetime warranty and I intend keeping the car a few more years.
Front are straightforward to replace.
I now have Arnott on rear and RMI on front, no leaks.
