Depends whether you have 4matic or not. If not, then it shouldn't matter, if you do, you're supposed to have the same type of tire on all 4 corners. That's more to have the same height tire.

When I had an Audi Quattro I was told all 4 tires should be the same type. I now have a 4 Matic and while I've not asked, I guess after 2 Quattros, that advise is now stuck in my head.

There's a couple articles about this on Tirerack. Some manufacturers are more specific than others that you should not have more than 2 or 3/32's difference in the tread of the tires, I think Audi was mentioned. Didn't find a spec for Mercedes though. Also if you look at some tirerack tire specifications, even though the diameter is the same, some have more revolutions per mile than others, but it's a minor amount maybe 809 vs 811.

Also, just because the tires are the same size does not mean that the revolutions per mile are the same for different manufacturers or even models of tires within a tire manufacture's tire line. The revolutions per mile is the important spec to check in this case.

Audi Quattros have no requirement that all tires be the same manufacturer and/or model. The only recommendation is that tread depth (that is tire diameter) be similar. I would assume that MB 4matic requires similar tread depth on each axel. Otherwise, the OP is already screwed because his rear tires are worn out while the fronts have plenty of tread.
The wear pattern on my Audi Quattro is even for all tires, even without religious rotation. I don't know why E350s wear out the rear tires so fast. I have checked the alignment on my RWD and check tire pressure regularly and only get about 20K on any brand of tire on the rear. The wear across the tire is even. I'm on my third set of rears while the fronts are still the original OEM.

I don't drive fast, 75mph is the fastest I do. Tire shop would like for you to change all four new tires to match. On my E350, I have mismatch tires, only the rears are the some brand/model. The car runs fine, I don't feel any different.

It has nothing to do with it feeling different. They like to say the mismatched tires puts an extra load on your transfer case and differential so it fails sooner. Hard to say when/if that will happen. Handling would also be different with 2 different sets of tires.
