I don't understand the pride of the E550 cars. If you follow this thread you get the impression they think it is the ultimate supercar. In reality the E550 was rubbish compared with the E63, and it was rubbish compared with its direct competitors - the BMW 550i and the Audi S6.

To me the E43 is interesting because it could actually be the best of the 6 cylinder mid-size sedans from Germany, and the E63 will be the best of the V8s.

I think some are still grieving over MB taking that V8 option away and replaced it with a turbo V6. Not sure what the E43 is yet but it seems to bother AMG V8 owners. Will wait until the full lineup is out and gets tested thoroughly to form an opinion.

I can't speak for all 550 owners, but I just like how it's got the extra power and more standard options over the E350 with a sleeper look but without significant ongoing costs for maintenance, insurance, etc. Both are great cars in their own right.

Personally, I think any sub 6 second car in 0-60 is fast. I don't race - I just press the pedal every now and then in a straight line for fun. More fun than that is too rich for my blood.

They haven't got rid of the v8 option. There will be an E63 with a 4.0 V8 with over 600hp.

I didn't say they got rid of the V8 option. I said they took 'that V8 option away and replaced it with a turbo V6'. That V8 option was a reference to the E550.

Porsche did the same thing with the Panamera S. It's going to happen across the industry. Get used to it. It's called progress. More performance from smaller engines is a good thing. My 6 cylinder 911 Turbo S is faster than any V8 engined car Mercedes makes.

For some reason you seem to believe that I am not one of the ones still grieving the lack of the E550 engine option. I said I think some are still grieving - not me.

I plan on giving all the engine options a chance when it comes time for a replacement. Extra power is not a requirement for me - it's just a bonus if the cost and features work out.

Really, this coming from someone who can't admit that their E550 can't corner and says that is what brakes are for? Yet you still still think the E550 can "smoke" the E43? Dude you're lost. You're done. The E550 won't do squat to the E43 outside of a straight line.

His E550 is a W211 NA V8 not TT V8 in 2012-14 W212, so do not think W211 E550 (or W212 2010-11 E550 for that matter) has a chance even on a straight vs. E43 (similar power, but delivered earlier on a lighter car).

I do like the comment about the E550 guys being overly sensitive though. I think the E43 is a great idea. I'm embracing change... I am all for it. In fact I wish the C450 was called C43. This would have made more sense, and could have offered a Segway into the E43, and maybe saved us some of this ridiculous childish banter.

In the end, the E43 will sell like hot cakes, and depreciate like the rest of the AMG's... Mercedes knows exacty what they are doing, and I can't wait to pick up a used W213 E63 with 10,000 miles for 2/3 the price

Being a Mercedes fan does not make one a blind idiot unaware and unwilling to consider other products. Most of us on this board love Mercedes, but we are also intelligent people who earn a lot of money by being smart about decision making. Only a moron would ignore the notion of other products in a discussion of the merits of Mercedes products.

Sorry but I ran a 2008 E550 and I smoked a 2008 550i E60... so a 535i would not get a chance.
Both cars were 100% stock and only 1 person on board.

2008 550i and 2012 535i are not the same thing. My point is a 6 cylinder BMW twin turbo with an 8 speed ZF box is faster than the 2010 E550.

Anyway it doesn't really matter what you say in response because everyone knows the 2010 E550 is slow and outdated which is why Mercedes got rid of that engine.

The "BMW guy" is a moron, so no need to reply to him, but:

1. Even the current E400 will "smoke" the current 535I, just looking at the numbers is enough: http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/vehicl...ry=PERFORMANCE
and since NA E550 is faster/quicker than E400.. well one can feel in the rest.

2. MB phased out NA 5.5 V8 engine in favor of TT 4.7 V8 engine not because E550 was slow, but because 4.7 engine is more efficient, modern and all manufacturers are moving toward efficient and more powerful TT technology. Its called "progress", but only a moron would not get it.

Its probably time to visit an optometrist to upgrade thickness (maybe color too) of those reading glasses.

Has anyone been advised that the AMG designation will not be placed on the e43? Rather the designation with be 4matic on one side and e43 on the other? That was told to me by a salesperson at a dealership. thanks
