My 2017 E300 Doesn't Use Oil!

I just got my new E300 2017 today and naturally I have been reading over thee Owners Manual in search of some things I consider important, like how much oil does the car hold and what weight the oil should be.
Well after spending 2 hours reading and looking for this info. I can't find it.
Having said this, is there any kind soul who will tell me what MB won't, can you tell me how much oil the car holds and what weight the should be. I will assume the oil s/b synthetic, but correct me if I am wrong. Thank you for any replies.

About 5.8 quarts, depending on if 4-matic or not. 5w-40 oil that meets MB 229.5 spec.

It's a shame, but they really want the drivers to not do anything to the car now. Not even checking the oil. What used to be such basic driver skills, are now largely ignored. So we see customers coming in with a car with major issues, because they ignore warning lights and have no understanding of what is going on under the hood.

Agree.

In the world of leasing, preventive maintenance does not exist and the bare minimum is what is done. A significant majority of MBs are leased.

In the 7 series BMW there is no dipstick! So when you're low on oil which is a very common issue (burns oil like crazy) you just get a warning on your dash

The older benzes were like that, relying completely on the oil level sensor. My CL has that setup, the dipstick tube is empty, just a cap on it, so you either have to buy the Mercedes workshop dipstick and measure it to the specific marks (it's just incremented in MM, not add-full as it fits many engines), or rely on the electronic oil level sensor.

If you go into the diagnostic menu, where you reset your service reminders, you can see an actual quart level readout inferred from the sensor. I do like it, but I'd still prefer a regular 'ol dipstick.

Well, I checked to make sure, but the 2017 E-Class owners manual does in fact contain the oil spec requirement, oil capacity and even instructions for checking the level with the dipstick!

Yeah the last model generation they went back to a regular dipstick, I was talking about my '03. The new ones almost all have a real dipstick, I haven't looked at the newer 279 V12s though.

I just noticed it's on page 347 in the ON-LINE owners manual, well I shall now go in search of that as I only knew of the paper owners manual but I will look for the on-line manual. Thanks

The online PDF version is a copy of the paper one.

Owners Manuals

It's always a good idea to read over the entire manual, but when searching for something specific, it's best to look in the index located in the back of the manual.
"Oil" directs you to "Engine Oil", see below:

Engine oil .................................................. 281
Additives ............................................. 346
Capacity .............................................. 346
Checking the oil level using the oil
dipstick ................................................ 281
MB-Approval .................................... 346
Topping up ........................................... 281

Oil specifications:
MB Approval (gasoline models) 229.5 or 229.6

229.5 Multi-grade engine oils (Specification 229.5)

229.6 specification multi-grade engine oils are not yet available.

You may top up (once) with oil having MB Approval 229.1, 229.3 or ACEA A3, if 229.5 oil is not available.

Just for everyones info. All MB are "certified" to use Mobil One 0-30. Quite simple.
